Overview

The Sofirn SC18 is a powerful and compact EDC (Everyday Carry) flashlight designed for a wide range of uses, from night reading to outdoor searching. It offers an unparalleled output, making it a practical companion for everyday use.

Function Description

The SC18 operates with a single high-power LED, providing various brightness levels to suit different needs. Its core function is illumination, offering a spectrum from a very low "Moonlight" mode for close-up tasks to an intense "Turbo" mode for maximum visibility. The flashlight is designed for ease of use with a single side switch controlling all functions.

Usage Features

  • ON/OFF: A single click of the side switch turns the light on or off, providing straightforward control.
  • Brightness Level Adjustment: When the flashlight is on, pressing and holding the side switch allows the user to cycle through Low, Medium, and High modes. The flashlight remembers the last used brightness level in these general modes, ensuring convenience for repeated use. The desired mode is selected by releasing the switch. It's important to note that Moonlight, Turbo, and Strobe modes are not part of this automatic cycle.
  • Moonlight Mode: For situations requiring minimal light, such as night reading without disturbing others, the Moonlight mode can be accessed by pressing and holding the side switch for over one second when the flashlight is off. Continuing to press and hold the switch in this mode will also allow for brightness level changes within the Moonlight setting.
  • Turbo Mode: When maximum illumination is needed, the Turbo mode can be activated with a quick double-click of the side switch from any state. A single click will return the flashlight to its previous mode.
  • Strobe Mode: For signaling or self-defense, the Strobe mode can be accessed by quickly triple-clicking the side switch when the flashlight is on. A single click will exit this mode.
  • Lockout/Unlock: To prevent accidental activation, especially during storage or transportation, the SC18 features a button lockout mode. This is engaged by four-clicking the side switch when the flashlight is off. While in lockout mode, any single click or press of the switch will result in the LED flashing twice, signaling that the device is still locked. To unlock the flashlight, simply four-click the switch again.
  • Charging: The SC18 is equipped with a convenient USB-C charging port. It can be charged using the included USB-A to USB-C cable and a 5V/2A USB power adapter (not included). During charging, a red LED indicator flashes, turning green once the battery is fully charged.
  • Power Indicator: To keep users informed about the battery status, a power indicator displays the power level for 5 seconds after the SC18 is turned on. A green light indicates a good remaining battery level, while a red light signifies low power. A flashing red light indicates a critical battery level, prompting the user to replace or recharge the flashlight as soon as possible.
  • Advanced Temperature Regulation (ATR): The SC18 incorporates ATR technology, which automatically adjusts the brightness level to prevent overheating when the driver temperature reaches a relatively high point. This ensures the longevity of the device and user safety.
  • Reverse Polarity Protection: This feature cuts off power if the battery is inserted improperly, protecting the flashlight from potential damage.
  • Low Voltage Protection (LVP): If the battery voltage drops below 2.7V while the flashlight is on, the device will automatically turn off to prevent over-discharge and preserve battery life.
  • High Voltage Protection (HVP): Conversely, if the battery voltage exceeds 4.35V while the flashlight is on, it will also automatically turn off, protecting the battery and circuitry from overcharging.

Maintenance Features

  • Battery Installation: Before initial use, users must unscrew the tailcap and remove an insulating film. When replacing the battery, it's crucial to ensure the positive end of the new battery faces the flashlight head.
  • Preventing Accidental Activation: To avoid unintended activation during storage or transport, users can unscrew the head by half a turn or remove the battery entirely.
  • Thread Maintenance: Every six months, the threads of the flashlight should be wiped with a clean cloth and then coated with a thin layer of silicone grease. This helps maintain smooth operation and prevents wear.
  • Waterproofness: To ensure the flashlight maintains its proper level of waterproofness, worn-out O-rings should be replaced with approved spares. The initial order includes two spare O-rings for this purpose.
  • Cleaning Battery Contacts: Dirty battery contacts can impair the flashlight's performance, leading to issues like flickering, intermittent light, or failure to turn on. Regular cleaning of these contacts with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol is recommended.
  • Battery Choice: Sofirn, Ltd. recommends using high-quality brand batteries to ensure optimal performance and prevent damage from battery leakage, which would void the warranty.
  • Long-Term Storage: If the flashlight will not be used for an extended period, it is advisable to remove the battery to prevent potential issues.
  • Troubleshooting: In case of performance issues, users are advised to check if the battery needs replacement (if voltage is below 2.8V) or if the contacts (threads, PCB board, or other contacts) are dirty. If these solutions do not resolve the problem, users should refer to the warranty policy and contact their authorized distributor.
  • Warranty: Disassembling the sealed head of the flashlight can damage the device and will void the warranty. For defective products, users are encouraged to contact customer support for replacement within the warranty period.
