Empty water tank
Take the portafilter out of the brewing
head and let hot water run through it
(press the
or button). Should
the water run through the sieve irregu-
larly, descale the appliance as described
in the section “Descaling” on page 164.
Carefully and slowly turn the portafilter
out of the brewing head. Please note
that the pressure could cause hot splash-
es. Clean the holes in the filter insert
with a brush or the cleaning tool. Clean
the filter inserts as described in the sec-
tion “Cleaning” (p. 161).
Set the appliance to a coarser grind size
(higher number).
Use less pressure when tamping the
ground coffee.
Manually adjust a larger amount of
espresso. Please proceed as described in
the section “Programming the amount
of espresso” (p. 153).
Correctly install the water tank so that
it lies firmly against the back side of the
appliance.
Check the water level and, if required,
fill the water tank with fresh cold tap
water up to the MAX marking.
Fill the water tank up to the MAX mark-
ing with fresh cold tap water.
The machine
makes unusual
noises while mak-
ing espresso.
There is too little water
in the tank so that the
pump can not suck in
any water.
Check the water level. If required, fill the
water tank with fresh cold tap water up
to the MAX marking.
The machine does
not dispense
any hot water or
steam.
The steaming nozzle is
clogged.
Remove potential residues from the
opening of the steaming nozzle using
