Overview

This document describes the Sony LBT-D290/G3300/XB3 Compact Hi-Fi Stereo System, a versatile audio device designed for various markets including the US, Canada, AEP, UK, E, Australia, and PX models. The system is composed of several component models: the LBT-D290, LBT-G3300, and LBT-XB3, each with its own service manual. The core components include a compact disc deck, receiver system, and speaker system (SS-XB3 for E, Argentine, Mexican, Australian, PX models).

Usage Features:

CD Playback:

  • Normal Play: Play up to five CDs in a row. Users can place CDs on the disc tray, use DISC SKIP to add more, close the cover, and press a DIRECT PLAY button to start playback. The system supports 12-hour time display.
  • Repeat Play: Repeat a single CD or all CDs in Normal Play, Shuffle Play, and Program Play.
  • Shuffle Play: Play all tracks on one CD or all CDs in random order.
  • Program Play: Create a program of up to 32 tracks from all CDs in a desired order.
  • Non-Stop Play: Play CDs without pausing between tracks.

Tape Playback and Recording:

  • Recording on Tape Manually: Record from CDs, tapes, or radio. The recording level is automatically adjusted.
  • Recording CDs by Specifying Track Order (Program Edit): Record tracks from all CDs in a desired order, ensuring playing times do not exceed tape side length.
  • High-speed Dubbing: Record from tape to tape using TYPE I (normal) or TYPE II (CrO2) tapes. The recording level is automatically adjusted.

Radio Tuning:

  • Preset Tuning: Preset up to 30 radio stations (20 FM, 10 AM).
  • Listening to Non-Preset Radio Stations: Manually tune to stations.
  • Timer-Recording Radio Programs: Record radio programs at a preset time.

DJ Effects:

Karaoke Features:

  • Singing Along: Reduce singer's voice on CD or tape (KARAOKE PON), reduce right/left channel on multiplex CD or tape (MPX R/L).
  • Adjusting Microphone Echo: Adjust echo level (LBT-XB3K/XB4K/XB6K only).
  • Adjusting Key: Adjust the key higher or lower in 13 halftone steps (-3.0 to 3.0) (LBT-XB3K/XB4K/XB6K only).

Timer Functions:

  • Wake-up Timer: Wake up to music at a preset time daily.
  • Sleep Timer: Set the system to turn off at a preset time (10-minute increments).

Maintenance Features:

  • Safety Check-Out: After service, perform a safety check for AC leakage from exposed metal parts.
  • Notes on Chip Component Replacement: Never reuse disconnected chip components. Be aware of heat damage to tantalum capacitors.
  • Flexible Circuit Board Repairing: Maintain soldering iron temperature around 270 °C, avoid touching the same conductor more than three times, and do not apply force to the conductor.
  • Laser Safety: The appliance is a CLASS 1 LASER product. The laser component emits radiation exceeding Class 1 limits. A caution label is located inside the unit.
