Overview

This document describes the Sony Ruvi CCD-CR1 Video Camera Recorder, a camcorder designed for capturing video and still images.

Function Description

The Sony Ruvi CCD-CR1 is a video camera recorder that allows users to capture life's precious moments with superior picture and sound quality. It records both video and still pictures onto a dedicated video cartridge. The camcorder offers various recording modes, including standard video recording, 5-second quick shots, and anti-ground shooting. It also features playback capabilities, allowing users to view recorded content on the built-in LCD screen or an external TV/VCR. Editing functions are available for transferring recorded footage to another tape.

  • Charging Time (NP-F10): 145 (85) minutes for a fully charged battery pack using the supplied charger.
  • Tripod Receptacle: Screw length less than 9/32 in. (6.5 mm).
  • LCD Screen: Manufactured using high-precision technology, may have tiny black/bright points (red, blue, green) which are normal.
  • TV Color System: NTSC system-based TV required for viewing recordings on a TV.
  • Internal Clock: Operates on a 12-hour cycle; 12:00:00 AM for midnight, 12:00:00 PM for noon.

Usage Features

  • Power On/Off: Slide the POWER ON/OFF switch while pressing a small button.
  • Recording Modes:
    • 5SEC Mode: Records for about 5 seconds and then stops automatically (factory setting). Recording can be extended by pressing START/STOP again before dots disappear.
    • ANTI GROUND SHOOTING: Records only while START/STOP is pressed.
    • Standard Recording: Starts recording when START/STOP is pressed, stops when pressed again.
  • Zoom Function: Use the zoom lever for telephoto ("T" side, subject appears closer) and wide-angle ("W" side, subject appears farther away) shots.
  • Macro Mode: For shooting subjects closer than 15 3/4 in. (40 cm). Slide the MACRO lock switch and move the zoom lever to the "W" side end. A MACRO indicator appears on the LCD.
  • Mirror Mode: Turn the LCD panel up vertically to allow the subject to monitor the shot. The mirror mode indicator appears, and date/remaining tape indicators disappear. Picture appears as a mirror-image on the LCD.
  • Backlight Compensation: Press BACK LIGHT when shooting with a light source behind the subject or a light background. The backlight indicator appears on the LCD.
  • End Search: During stop, press END SEARCH to rewind/fast-forward and play back the last 5 seconds of the recorded portion, then stop at the end of the recorded picture.
  • Photo Scan: During stop, press PHOTO SCAN to search and display still pictures for about 8 seconds each. The sound is muted during Photo Scan.
  • Date/Time Recording: Press DATE and/or TIME before or during recording to display and record the date and/or time with the picture. The clock is factory-set to London/Paris time and can be reset.
  • Playback:
    • Standard Playback: Press PLAY.
    • Stop Playback: Press STOP.
    • Still Picture (Pause): Press PAUSE during playback.
    • Fast-forward/Rewind: Press FF/REW.
    • Picture Search: Keep FF/REW pressed during playback.
    • Skip Scan: Keep FF/REW pressed during fast-forwarding/rewinding to monitor high-speed picture.
  • LCD Panel: Adjustable angle.
  • Speaker: Can be turned ON/OFF via the SPEAKER ON/OFF switch.
  • TV/VCR Connection: Connects to TV/VCR via A/V OUT jack using the supplied A/V connecting cable for viewing playback.

Maintenance Features

  • Battery Installation/Removal: Slide the OPEN (BATT) release lever, install/remove batteries, then close the lid. Always turn off the camcorder before handling batteries.
  • Battery Care:
    • Use two size AA (LR6) batteries or an NP-F10 "InfoLITHIUM" battery pack.
    • Install AA batteries with correct polarity.
    • AA batteries are not recommended for cold environments; use NP-F10.
    • "InfoLITHIUM" battery packs exchange data with compatible equipment for accurate remaining battery indication. For more accurate readings, turn on the camcorder and point it at a stationary object for 30 seconds.
    • Avoid exposing battery packs to temperatures above 140°F (60°C), direct sunlight, or mechanical shock.
    • Keep battery packs away from fire and water.
    • Do not open or disassemble battery packs.
    • Replace battery pack if the indicator flashes rapidly just after turning on with a fully charged pack.
    • Charge batteries at temperatures between 50°F (10°C) and 86°F (30°C).
  • AA Battery Specifics:
    • Insert with correct direction.
    • Dry batteries are not rechargeable.
    • Do not mix new and old batteries or different types of batteries.
    • If leakage occurs, wipe liquid from battery case, wash skin with water, and consult a doctor if liquid gets into eyes.
  • AC Adaptor/Charger Care:
    • Unplug from wall outlet when not in use for long periods by pulling the plug, not the cord.
    • Do not operate with a damaged cord or if the unit has been dropped.
    • Do not bend the power cord forcibly or place heavy objects on it.
    • Prevent metallic objects from contacting metal parts of the connecting plate.
    • Keep metal contacts clean.
    • Do not disassemble, apply mechanical shock, or drop the unit.
    • Keep away from AM receivers and video equipment during use/charging to prevent interference.
    • Unit may become warm during use, which is normal.
    • Avoid extremely hot, cold, dusty, dirty, humid, or vibrating locations.
    • For any difficulties, unplug and contact authorized Sony service facility.
  • Automatic Power Off: To save battery power, the camcorder automatically turns off after 5 minutes of inactivity (while a video cartridge is inserted and power is on) or 5 minutes in playback pause mode.
  • Lens Cap: Attach the supplied lens cap to the lens by fitting the edge to the hollow and pushing until it clicks. Open the lens cap when shooting.
  • Camcorder Protection:
    • Avoid exposing to rain, moisture, sand, or dust.
    • Do not leave exposed to temperatures above 140°F (60°C) or direct sunlight.
    • Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.
  • Copyright Precaution: Unauthorized recording of copyrighted materials may be contrary to copyright laws.
  • Recording Compensation: Contents of recording cannot be compensated if recording or playback fails due to malfunction of camcorder or video cartridge.
