Overview

This document describes the Sony XBA-1iP Stereo Headset, an audio accessory designed for use with Apple iPod, iPhone, and iPad devices. The headset is engineered to provide a high-quality audio experience with convenient remote control functionality.

Function Description

The Sony XBA-1iP Stereo Headset serves as a personal audio device, allowing users to listen to music and handle phone calls when connected to compatible Apple products. Its primary function is to deliver clear and balanced sound through its earbuds, while the integrated remote controller offers seamless interaction with the connected device.

The headset features a newly developed Balanced Armature driver unit. This micro-size, full-range driver is specifically designed to reproduce smooth and clear vocal sounds, enhancing the listening experience for various audio content. Complementing this, the headset incorporates a newly developed Double Layered Housing. This housing combines a Liquid Crystal Polymer inner housing with a special ABS outer housing, working together to reproduce clear, distortion-free mid-high range frequencies. This construction aims to provide a rich and accurate sound reproduction across a wide spectrum.

A key aspect of the headset's design is its noise-blocking capability. This feature is intended to attenuate ambient noise from the surroundings, allowing users to focus more on their audio. It also helps to minimize sound leakage, ensuring that the audio being played is not easily heard by others nearby. The overall design prioritizes a super-small body, which contributes to ultimate wearing comfort, making the headset suitable for extended periods of use.

Usage Features

The XBA-1iP headset is equipped with a remote controller that offers intuitive control over media playback and call management on compatible iPod, iPhone, and iPad models. The remote features a "Center button" and volume controls (Volume + and Volume -).

  • Center Button Functionality:

    • Music Playback: A single press of the Center button will play or pause a track on the connected iPod product. For navigation, a double press skips to the next track, while a triple press skips to the previous track.
    • VoiceOver Feature: A long press of the Center button activates the "VoiceOver" feature, if available on the connected device. The availability of this feature depends on the iPod model and its software version.
    • Call Management: When an incoming call is received, pressing the Center button once will answer the call. To end an ongoing call, press the button again. To reject an incoming call, the user can hold down the button for approximately two seconds. Upon releasing the button, two low beeps will confirm that the call has been rejected.
  • Volume Control: The remote includes dedicated buttons for adjusting the volume. There is a tactile dot beside the Volume + button, which helps users identify it by touch, allowing for easier operation without needing to look at the remote.

  • Compatibility: The headset is specifically designed for use with a range of Apple devices that support remote control functionality. Users are advised to update their iPod, iPhone, or iPad to the latest software version before using the headset to ensure optimal performance. Compatible models include various generations of iPod touch, iPod nano, iPod classic, iPod shuffle, iPhone (including iPhone 4 and 3GS), and iPad (including iPad 2).

  • Wearing Comfort and Fit: The headset comes with different sizes of earbuds to ensure a snug and comfortable fit. These include hybrid silicone rubber earbuds in SS (red), S (orange), M (green), and L (light blue) sizes, as well as noise isolation earbuds in S (orange), M (green), and L (light blue). The M-sized hybrid silicone rubber earbuds are pre-attached to the unit at the factory. The noise isolation earbuds are designed to provide a snug fit for effective attenuation of ambient noise. The pressure-relieving urethane cushion in these earbuds is extremely soft, contributing to comfort.

  • Clip and Cord Adjuster: The headset includes a clip, which can be attached to clothing to secure the cord and prevent it from snagging or pulling. A cord adjuster is also supplied, allowing users to wind the cord up to 50 cm (19 3/4 in) to manage excess cable length. A carrying pouch is provided for convenient storage and portability of the headset and its accessories.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance of the Sony XBA-1iP Stereo Headset is important to ensure its longevity and continued performance.

  • Earbud Cleaning: The hybrid silicone rubber earbuds should be kept clean. To clean them, users can wash them with a mild detergent solution. This helps maintain hygiene and prevents the buildup of earwax or debris that could affect sound quality or comfort.

  • Removing Headphones: After use, it is recommended to remove the headphones slowly. The headphones are designed to fit closely in the ears, and pressing them hard or removing them too quickly may cause injury.

  • Noise Isolation Earbud Care:

    • Snug Fit: It is important to install the earbuds firmly. If an earbud accidentally detaches and is left in the ear, it could cause injury.
    • Prolonged Use: Prolonged use of snugly fitting earbuds may strain the ears. If discomfort is experienced, discontinue use.
    • Urethane Cushion: The pressure-relieving urethane cushion in the noise isolation earbuds is very soft. If it breaks or detaches, it will not maintain its correct position, and the earbuds will lose their noise isolation function. The urethane cushion may also deteriorate over time. If its pressure-relieving power is lost or it hardens, the earbuds may lose their noise isolation capability.
    • Washing: Do not wash the noise isolation earbuds. Keep them dry, as washing them may cause them to deteriorate quickly.
  • General Precautions:

    • Storage: Avoid leaving the stereo headphones in locations subject to direct sunlight, excessive heat, or moisture, as these conditions can damage the device.
    • Static Electricity: Static electricity accumulated in the body may cause a mild tingling sensation in the ears. To minimize this effect, wearing clothes made from natural materials is recommended.
    • High Volume: Listening at high volumes may affect hearing.
    • Traffic Safety: For safety, the headset should not be used while driving or cycling, as it can reduce awareness of surroundings.
  • Replacement Earbuds: Optional replacement earbuds can be ordered from an authorized Sony retailer or through the Sony website (www.sony.com). This ensures that users can replace worn or lost earbuds with genuine parts, maintaining the headset's performance and comfort.
