Overview

The device is a SpaNet SV Series Advanced Spa Control unit, designed to manage and automate various functions of a spa, including heating, filtration, and accessory operation. It features self-diagnostics and scrolling error messages to assist with troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The SpaNet SV Series Advanced Spa Control unit serves as the central control system for a spa. It manages the spa's heating element, filtration pump, jet pumps, air blowers, and other accessories. The controller initiates a water priming sequence on startup to purge air from the plumbing system, running the filtration pump for up to 20 seconds at a time. If successful, normal operation begins; otherwise, it will shut down and latch on a fault code (ER-3 Water Prime). The unit continuously monitors the presence of water in the heater tube via an in-heater water sensor. If air bubbles are detected during operation, it automatically cancels current operations and forces a water priming sequence. The system also incorporates a red flashing "heartbeat" LED to indicate its current health and status. A single flash in a constant pulse signifies correct functioning without errors, while a sequence of flashes corresponds to specific error codes.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage: 230-240V 50-60 Hz (Single/Two/Three Phase)
  • Safety Standards: AS/NZS 3135.1 / AS/NZS 60335.2.40
  • 12V Overload Limit: 1A (for keypads, lights, expansion ports, and in-pool temp sensor)
  • Heater Temperature Limit: Shuts down if water temperature exceeds 45°C (ER-5 Pool Too Hot)
  • Current Limit (C.LMT): Detects mains (230V) current draw above a configured limit (ER-10 Over Current).

Usage Features:

  • Water Priming Mode: Automatically initiated on startup to purge air. Can be manually retried by pressing the "Pump A" button.
  • Error Code Display: Scrolling error messages on the keypad display and flashing heartbeat LED indicate specific problems.
  • Keypad Control: Allows users to interact with the spa's functions and clear service reminders.
  • Keylock Function: Can be used to lock keypad buttons to prevent unintended operation, especially when the spa cover is on.
  • Heat Pump Integration (Optional): If an optional heat pump is fitted, the control unit manages its operation and displays specific heat pump error warnings. In case of a heat pump fault, the spa will revert to heating with the inbuilt SV electric element.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Cartridge Servicing: The manual emphasizes the importance of clean filters to prevent ER-3 faults. It recommends removing filters during filling and servicing them regularly (cleaning, soaking, or replacing) based on manufacturer guidelines.
  • Airlock Bleeding: Instructions are provided to bleed airlocks from pipework by loosening couplings on the filtration pump or flushing water down pipework with a hose.
  • Water Level Monitoring: Users are advised to check and maintain the correct spa water level to prevent issues like ER-3 and ER-4.
  • Thermal Trip Reset: For ER-4 (Thermal Trip), users are instructed to turn off mains power, wait 10-15 minutes for the element to cool and reset, then restore power.
  • Service Reminder Messages: The SV controller software includes inbuilt service timer reminders, such as "SERVICE FILTERS," which scroll across the screen. These can be cancelled/reset by pressing the "OK" button while the message is displayed.
  • Leak Inspection: For ER-8 (CTRL FAULT HVS), users are advised to inspect under the spa cabinet for water leaks onto the spa control and to dry out any excess water before restoring power.
  • Controller Settings Check: For ER-10 (Over Current), it is recommended to contact the reseller to ensure controller settings are configured to match available power and circuit breaker rating.
  • Heartbeat LED Diagnostics: The heartbeat LED provides a visual indication of the spa pack's health, even if the keypad display is blank, allowing users to identify if an error condition is present.
