Overview

The Speedaire Stainless Steel Industrial Hose Reel ½" (model 2CUD4) is a robust and versatile device designed for various industrial applications, including food processing, pre-rinse, wash down, chemical transfer, and industrial solvent handling. Its primary function is to store and automatically rewind a hose, maintaining a desired hose position during use through a locking ratchet mechanism.

Function Description:

The hose reel features an internal spring for automatic hose rewind, which ensures efficient and tidy storage of the hose when not in use. A locking ratchet allows the user to extend the hose to a desired length and keep it in place, preventing accidental retraction. To unlatch the reel, the hose is pulled out slightly until the "clicking" noise stops, then allowed to retract. The reel is designed for secure mounting in various orientations—wall, floor, or ceiling—to suit different work environments.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: 2CUD4
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 300 PSI
  • Hose I.D.: 1/2 inch
  • Hose Length: 50 feet
  • Hose Reel Dimensions (Length x Width x Height): 20.6 x 8.4 x 22.5 inches
  • Weight: 53.0 pounds
  • Hose Outlet Connection: 1/2 inch NPT Male
  • Reel Inlet Connection: 1/2 inch NPT Female
  • Maximum Operating Temperatures: 210°F (Fahrenheit)
  • Mounting Holes: Four 1/2 inch (12.7mm) drilled holes for mounting on a suitable flat surface. The base template shows a 6" (152mm) square pattern for these holes.

Usage Features:

  • Automatic Rewind: The internal spring mechanism automatically retracts the hose, simplifying storage and preventing tangles.
  • Locking Ratchet: Allows the user to lock the hose at a desired length, providing flexibility and convenience during operation.
  • Versatile Mounting: Can be installed on walls, floors, or ceilings, adapting to different workspace layouts and requirements. The manual provides detailed instructions and diagrams for each mounting position.
  • Ease of Operation: To latch the reel, pull out the hose and allow it to retract after hearing the first, second, or third "click." To unlatch, pull the hose out until the "clicking" noise stops (approximately 1½ revolutions) and then let it retract.
  • Safety Precautions: Users are advised to wear proper eye protection, ensure incoming line pressure does not exceed the maximum rated operating pressure, and never let the hose retract without holding onto it, as a recoiling hose can have surprising force. Children should be kept away from the work area.

Maintenance Features:

  • Spring Tension Adjustment: If the reel does not fully rewind the hose, the spring tension can be adjusted. This involves pulling out approximately 6 ft (2 m) of hose, latching the drum, removing the hose stopper, feeding the hose back through the guide, and then wrapping or unwrapping the pulled hose one time around the drum to increase or decrease tension, respectively. The manual warns that the spring tension can cause the reel to spin quickly and forcefully. The rewind spring itself is not serviceable and the spring cover should not be removed.
  • Swivel Seal Replacement: This procedure involves turning off the air supply, releasing hose pressure, disconnecting the supply line from the swivel inlet, removing the swivel assembly from the reel axle, and then disassembling the swivel to replace the O-rings and retainers. Thread sealant should be used when reassembling the swivel.
  • Hose Replacement: To replace the hose, the air supply must be turned off, pressure released, and the reel securely stabilized. All the old hose is pulled out and the reel locked. The old hose clamps are removed, and the hose is disconnected from the swivel joint. The new hose is then fed through the guide and drum opening, connected to the swivel with sealant, and secured with the hose clamps. The stopper is reinstalled, and the drum latch is carefully released to allow the hose to wind onto the reel. Final spring adjustment may be needed after hose replacement.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Regular inspection of normal wear items such as plastic rollers and rubber stops is recommended for timely replacement.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a one-year limited warranty, covering defects or poor workmanship. Incidental or consequential damages are excluded. For replacement parts, a dedicated hotline (1-800-323-0620) is available 24/7.
