STARTING THE ENGINE WITH JUMPER CABLES
You can start a vehicle that has a discharged battery by transferring electrical power to it from a battery in
another vehicle.
1. Prepare a set of jumper cable.
2. Apply the parking brake and shift the transmission to P po-
sition (automatic transmission) or neutral (
N) position
(manual transmission).
3. If the booster battery is not a MF type battery, remove all vent
plugs from it. Cover the opened vent holes with cloth to avoid
a possibility of battery explosion and other hazards.

4. Start the engine with the booster battery. Switch off all elec-
trical accessories in the vehicle with discharged battery.
5. Connect one end of the first lead of the jumper cable to the
positive terminal of the discharged battery.
6. Connect other end of this same jumper cable lead to the
positive terminal of the booster battery.
• Connect the positive cable
first when connecting.
• Disconnect the megative
cable first when disconnecting.
