It is intended for both professional and private, non-professional users. The tool requires the appropriate type of cutting, wire brush, or grinding disc and must be fitted with the correct guard for the intended operation.

Function Description:

The angle grinder is used for various tasks including surface grinding, edge grinding, cutting, and wire brushing. It operates by rotating an abrasive wheel or wire brush at high speed to remove material or cut through workpieces. The tool is powered by a STANLEY FATMAX 18V V20 Lithium-Ion battery pack.

  • Sound Pressure Level (LPA): 78 dB(A), uncertainty (K) 3 dB(A)
  • Sound Power Level (LWA): 89 dB(A), uncertainty (K) 3 dB(A)
  • Vibration Total Values (triax vector sum) according to EN60745:
    • Surface grinding (ah, sg): 6.7 m/s², uncertainty (K) 1.5 m/s²
    • Note: Applications such as cutting-off or wire brushing may have different vibration emissions.

Usage Features:

  • Battery System: Utilizes the STANLEY FATMAX V20 Lithium-Ion battery platform. Batteries feature a state of charge indicator (6a) to quickly check remaining power.
  • Charging: Batteries are charged using a STANLEY FATMAX charger (8). The charger indicates charging status with a green LED (8a) (blinking for charging, solid for fully charged) and a red LED (8b) for hot/cold pack delay. The charger automatically suspends charging if the battery is too hot or too cold to ensure maximum battery life.
  • Switching On/Off: To switch on, slide the lock-off switch (1) forward and then press and hold the trigger switch (2). To switch off, release the trigger switch (2). The lock-off switch (1) should always be slid backward to the locked position when the tool is not in use.
  • Guard System: The tool is supplied with a guard (5) for grinding. For cutting-off operations, a specific guard (16) must be fitted. Guards are attached by aligning lugs (13) with notches (14), pressing down, rotating counterclockwise, and securing with a clamping lock (12). The clamping force can be increased by tightening a screw (15).
  • Side Handle (3): Provides an additional gripping surface for better control during operation.
  • Spindle Lock (4): Used to lock the spindle (11) for easy accessory changes.
  • Accessory Mounting: Accessories like grinding discs, cutting discs, wire wheels, and wire cups are mounted using backing flanges and locking flanges, or with threaded nuts for some wire accessories. The accessory chart provides guidance on fitting different types of accessories and corresponding guards.
  • Optimum Use Hints:
    • Hold the tool firmly with both hands (one on the side handle, one on the main handle).
    • Allow the tool to reach full speed before touching the workpiece.
    • Apply minimum pressure for high-speed operation and maximum grinding/cutting rate.
    • Maintain a 20° to 30° angle for surface grinding.
    • Continuously move the tool to avoid gouges.
    • Remove the tool from the workpiece before turning it off and allowing it to stop rotating.
  • Wire Brushing Precautions: Be aware that wire bristles can be thrown. Do not overstress the brush. If a guard is recommended, ensure no interference with the wire wheel/brush. Special precautions are advised for wire brushing lead-based paint, including personal protective equipment (dust masks/respirators), sealing the work area, and thorough cleaning.
  • Cutting Wheel Precautions: Do not "jam" the wheel or apply excessive pressure. Do not attempt excessive depth of cut. Avoid changing the angle of cut once started to prevent wheel bending and breakage. Support large workpieces to minimize pinching and kickback. Use caution when making "pocket cuts" into blind areas.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: The tool is designed for long-term operation with minimum maintenance. Regular cleaning is essential for satisfactory operation.
  • Cleaning:
    • Regularly clean ventilation slots in the appliance/tool/charger using a soft brush or dry cloth.
    • Clean the motor housing with a damp cloth; avoid abrasive or solvent-based cleaners.
    • If fitted, regularly open the chuck and tap it to remove dust from the interior.
  • Battery Care:
    • Charge discharged batteries within 1 week to prevent diminished battery life.
    • Store batteries at ambient temperatures between 10 °C and 40 °C.
    • Do not expose batteries to water or temperatures above 130 °C.
    • Never attempt to open or service damaged battery packs; service should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.
  • Charger Care:
    • The charger does not require maintenance apart from regular cleaning.
    • Unplug the charger before cleaning.
    • Do not expose the charger to water.
    • Never attempt to open or probe the charger.
    • Replace defective cords immediately.
  • Service: Power tools should be serviced by a qualified repair person using identical replacement parts to maintain safety.
  • Environmental Protection: Products and batteries should be disposed of separately from normal household waste, as they contain recyclable materials. Follow local provisions for recycling electrical products and batteries.
