      If you're cutting a large piece of wood with your Stanley Saw and it doesn't fit under the lower guard, turn off the saw. Then, put your right hand on the operating handle and your right thumb on the upper part of the guard. Roll the guard up just enough to make space for the wood.

      When cutting bowed material with a Stanley Saw, make sure to position the material as shown in figure U1, and avoid positioning it as shown in figure U2. Incorrect positioning of the material is the cause of this problem.
