Overview

The device described in this manual is a drywall panel rolling lifter, designed to assist in the installation of drywall panels on ceilings and walls. It is a mechanical lifting device that allows a single user to raise and position drywall sheets with greater ease and safety.

Function Description:

The drywall panel rolling lifter is primarily used for lifting and holding drywall panels in place, enabling a user to secure them to ceilings or walls without requiring additional assistance. The device features a cradle that can be tilted to facilitate loading of the drywall panel. Once loaded, the panel can be raised to the desired height using a winch wheel and handle mechanism. The lifter is equipped with a brake arm that automatically holds the cradle at the selected height, providing stability during installation. For installation on flat ceilings, the cradle can be tilted back to a level position. For side walls or sloped ceilings, the cradle can remain tilted. The device is also designed for easy maneuverability, featuring casters on its base that allow it to be rolled into position. The backstop on the base can be lowered to prevent backward rolling during loading and raised to secure the lift in place during operation. The crossarm outriggers on the cradle can be extended to fully support various lengths of drywall panels. The device also includes telescoping sections for adjusting height and a retaining hook to secure these sections for transport and storage.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Item Numbers: 65044 (11ft) & 65045 (16ft) – indicating different maximum lifting heights.
  • Maximum Lift Capacity: 150 lbs. (It is explicitly stated: "NEVER lift more than 150 lbs.")
  • Panel Support: Extendable crossarm outriggers to support the length of the drywall panel.
  • Tilting Mechanism: Cradle can tilt for loading and for installation on sloped surfaces, and can be locked into a level position for flat ceiling installation. It can also tilt up to 10° side-to-side when in the non-tilted position.
  • Lifting Mechanism: Winch wheel and handle with a spring-loaded brake for controlled raising and lowering.
  • Mobility: Equipped with casters on the tripod base for easy rolling and positioning. Caster locks are present to secure the hoist in place.
  • Assembly: Shipped in several components (drywall lift, tripod base, frame assembly with winch assembly and telescoping sections, and two cradle crossarms) that must be assembled before use.
  • Cable: The winch mechanism uses a cable for lifting. Regular inspection of the cable for wear or damage is crucial.
  • Extension Accessory: An optional extension accessory (Item 70, 71, 72, 73) is available and sold separately to increase the maximum lifting height.

Usage Features:

  • Loading Drywall Panels:
    • Lower the backstop to prevent backward rolling.
    • Swing open panel support hooks on the crossarms, ensuring they are on the opposite side from the winch wheel.
    • Extend crossarm outriggers as needed for panel length.
    • Release the tilt latch to tilt the cradle.
    • Load the drywall panel with its face paper toward the tilted cradle, resting it on support hooks and leaning it against crossarms.
    • For flat ceilings, tilt the cradle back to level and lock the tilt latch. For side/sloped ceilings, leave it tilted.
    • Raise the backstop and roll the lift to the installation position.
  • Raising the Panel:
    • Lower the backstop before raising the panel to a sloped ceiling or side wall.
    • Crank the winch wheel in the direction shown (hold the post for leverage) until the panel reaches the desired height. The spring-loaded brake will automatically hold the cradle.
  • Lowering the Panel:
    • Grasp the wheel handle with the right hand to restrain backward rotation of the winch.
    • With the left hand, carefully release the brake while maintaining hold on the winch handle, and slowly rotate the wheel backward to lower the cradle.
  • Disassembly for Transport/Storage:
    • Crank the cradle all the way down.
    • Slide the cradle outriggers all the way in.
    • Remove the crossarms by pressing the spring tab.
    • Unlock the cradle tilt latch and lift the cradle from the frame.
    • Rotate the winch wheel one full rotation forward to raise the inner telescoping section.
    • Unlock the winch assembly by lifting the slide bar and rotating the slide bar lock counterclockwise.
    • Hold the slide bar lock in its disengaged position, press down on telescoping sections, and move the frame housing forward.
    • Crank the telescoping sections all the way down, swing up the retaining hook, and crank the telescoping sections back up slightly until secured by the hook.
    • Hold the retaining hook, press down on telescoping sections, and move the winch forward. The winch assembly will fold up against the frame.
    • Carefully lift the frame/winch about 1 inch to free it from the tripod base.
    • Fold the base, press down on the slide yoke ring, and pivot the forward legs until they lock in the closed position.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always wear a hard hat when operating.
    • Use ONLY for lifting a drywall panel.
    • Lift ONLY one panel at a time.
    • NEVER lift more than 150 lbs.
    • Ensure the lift is at working room temperature.
    • The winch brake drum must be clean and dry.
    • Read all "Important Precautions" on page 3 of the manual before operation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Inspection: Before operating each day, inspect the unit carefully for wear or damage, paying special attention to the cable.
  • Cable Maintenance: Inspect the cable before each work day. Replace it at the first sign of wear (refer to instructions supplied with replacement cable).
  • Lubrication:
    • Occasionally oil the cable pulleys.
    • Crank up the telescoping sections for access to the internal cable pulley. Never allow oil or grease to contact the surface of the winch brake drum.
    • Occasionally oil the caster bearings.
  • Cleaning: If the telescoping sections of the frame don't operate smoothly, apply household paraffin to the sliding surfaces.
  • Post-Use Cleaning: After each use, lower the cradle completely and clean all surfaces of the Hoist with a clean cloth.
