What to do if my State Water Heaters Water Heater has ignition failure?
    • M
      marthajenkinsAug 15, 2025
If the gas control valve/thermostat has reached the maximum number of retries for ignition and is locked out, first ensure the flame sensor is making good contact with the burner flame and that the flame is steady. Also, verify that the gas supply and manifold pressures meet the requirements in the installation manual. Clean the flame sensor with fine steel wool if it's dirty. Inspect the igniter assembly plug and the socket on the gas control valve/thermostat for a secure connection. If the plug is worn or damaged, replace the igniter assembly. If the socket is worn or damaged, replace the gas control valve/thermostat. As a last resort, replace the igniter assembly.

What to do if the temperature sensor is open or shorted in my State Water Heaters Water Heater?
    • C
      Christy Bright DDSAug 18, 2025
If the self-diagnostic check has detected the water temperature sensor is open or shorted, turn the power off for 10-20 seconds then on again to clear these error codes. If the error code persists, replace the gas control valve/thermostat.

How to troubleshoot an open igniter circuit in my State Water Heaters GS675HRVIT Water Heater?
    • A
      Amanda SaundersAug 22, 2025
If the gas control valve/thermostat has detected an open igniter circuit, check the wiring to the hot surface igniter assembly; replace the igniter assembly if the wiring is damaged or worn. Check the resistance of the igniter at the igniter assembly plug—it should be between 11 and 18 ohms at room temperature (77° F at the plug end). Replace the igniter if it is open or shorted. Ensure the igniter assembly plug and the socket on the gas control valve/thermostat have a good connection. Replace the igniter assembly if the plug is worn or damaged. If the igniter assembly socket on the bottom of the control is worn or damaged, replace the gas control valve/thermostat.

What does it mean when the black resistor wire is open or shorted on my State Water Heaters Water Heater?
    • R
      Robert BrennanAug 26, 2025
If the self-diagnostic check has detected a problem with the black resistor wire on the igniter assembly plug (resistor wire is open or shorted), turn off the power to the water heater. Ensure the black resistor wire is not cut, missing, and is installed between pins 3 & 4 of the igniter assembly plug. Replace the igniter assembly if it is damaged or defective. If the error code persists, replace the gas control valve/thermostat.

How to fix resistance of the black resistor wire on State Water Heaters Water Heater?
    • S
      Sheila Patel MDAug 29, 2025
If the self-diagnostic check has determined that the resistance of the black resistor wire on the igniter assembly plug is not within tolerance, turn off the power to the water heater. Replace the igniter assembly plug. If the error code persists, replace the gas control valve/thermostat.

How to correct reversed polarity in my State Water Heaters GS675HRVIT Water Heater?
    • W
      wilkersonrachelSep 1, 2025
If the gas control valve/thermostat has sensed reversed polarity in the 120 VAC power supply, ensure the wall outlet/power supply is properly wired. Also, ensure all internal 120 VAC wiring connections and wiring harnesses have no reversed wires, and that the 120 VAC "hot" wire connects to the on/off switch.

What to do if the pressure switch circuit remains closed too long in my State Water Heaters Water Heater?
    • D
      Debra StoutSep 4, 2025
If the pressure switch circuit remains closed for more than 5 seconds after the heating cycle begins, ensure the air pressure switch circuit wiring is correct and the air pressure switch is not jumpered. If the issue persists, replace the air pressure switch.

    Dustin NewmanSep 7, 2025
Why does the air pressure switch circuit open repeatedly on my State Water Heaters GS675HRVIT Water Heater?
    • E
      Ernest WhiteheadSep 8, 2025
If the gas control valve/thermostat has detected the air pressure switch circuit is opening repeatedly during one heating cycle, ensure the air pressure switch hose is not kinked or clogged and that the blower housing is clear of any condensation. Check the vent temperature limit switch; if it is opening its contacts at normal operating temperatures during the heating cycle, replace it. Also, ensure the water heater is not over-firing.

What causes the pressure switch circuit to remain open on my State Water Heaters Water Heater?
    • B
      Brianna ValenzuelaSep 12, 2025
If the pressure switch circuit remains open longer than 5 seconds after the blower is energized, ensure the air pressure switch sensing tube is properly connected at both ends and is not kinked or damaged. Also, ensure the correct size of vent and intake air pipe was used per the installation instructions in the manual that came with the water heater. Verify that the maximum number of elbows or maximum equivalent feet of vent or intake air pipe has not been exceeded per the installation instructions in the manual that came with the water heater, and make sure there are no obstructions in the vent or intake air pipe.
