  If your Sterling Chiller unit isn't running, several factors could be at play. First, ensure the unit is receiving power by checking the main disconnect, fuses, wiring, and power lead. Verify that the voltage supplied is within plus or minus 10% of the nameplate rating. Also, inspect the on/off switch and replace if defective. Examine the control circuit fuse and replace it if blown. Check the transformer and look for a short circuit. Replace the control transformer if it's defective. Ensure the piping flow switch circuit is not open by adding water or a water/glycol solution if needed. Finally, check if the pump motor is off due to an overload; if so, reset and test it.

  If the pump in your Sterling Chiller runs but the compressor doesn't, start by lowering the leaving fluid temperature below the desired leaving temperature. If that doesn't work, the leaving fluid sensor High/Low thermostat may be defective and need replacement. Allow the compressor time to cool and reset, then check for high/low voltage, ensuring it's within plus or minus 10% of the nameplate rating. Check for open fuses and loose compressor electrical connections. The compressor contactor holding coil might be open, requiring repair or replacement. Similarly, a defective compressor auxiliary contact will need repair or replacement. Lastly, look for and repair any broken wires in the compressor control circuit.

  If the pump runs, but the compressor cycles at short intervals in your Sterling Chiller, first clean the plugged Y-strainer.
