How to get rid of tastes and odors in the product water of my Sterling Water Filtration System?
    • D
      deanmoniqueAug 11, 2025
If you notice unpleasant tastes or odors in the product water from your Sterling Water Filtration System, the post-filter or activated carbon pre-filter may be exhausted and require replacement. Foreign matter or bacteria within the R.O. system could also be the cause; in this case, clean, flush, and sanitize the system, replacing the filters. Ensure that the product water and drain water lines are correctly connected. Dissolved gasses in the feed water can also contribute to this issue, requiring pre-treatment of the feed water to remove them. Finally, an increase in product water TDS can affect taste and odor.

What to do about general fitting leaks in my Sterling Water Filtration System?

If you notice fitting leaks in your Sterling Water Filtration System, close the feed water saddle valve and relieve pressure before disconnecting any tubing or replacing any fitting. Before replacing a fitting, try re-cutting the tubing and re-inserting it into the fitting to see if that resolves the leak. If pipe threads are leaking, remove the fitting and re-tape the threads with Teflon® tape.

Why is the water pressure low at the dispensing faucet of my Sterling Water Filtration System?
    • R
      Robert GriffinSep 3, 2025
If you're experiencing low pressure at the dispensing faucet of your Sterling Water Filtration System, several factors could be responsible. First, check the air pre-charge in the storage tank. If it's too low, empty the tank and adjust the air pressure to 5–7 psig (5–8 kPa), checking for leaks at the air valve stem. Ensure the storage tank valve is fully open. The dispensing faucet itself might be faulty or require adjustment. If water usage has been heavy, the storage tank may be depleted; allow it time to refill, or consider adding a second storage tank to increase capacity. Low water production can also cause this issue. Additionally, check for clogged sediment or activated carbon pre-filters and replace them if necessary. Finally, ensure that the feed water pressure is above 40 psig.

Why is there a low quantity of product water from the storage tank in my Sterling Water Filtration System?

If you're experiencing a low quantity of product water from your Sterling Water Filtration System's storage tank, several factors could be responsible. First, ensure the feed water saddle valve is fully open and not obstructed. A clogged sediment or activated carbon pre-filter can also restrict water flow, so consider replacing them. Insufficient water pressure (below 40 psig) can also cause this issue. Inspect the R.O. membrane for fouling and address any underlying causes, replacing the membrane if necessary. Check the activated carbon post filter and replace if plugged. The air pre-charge pressure in the storage tank might be too high; in this case, empty the tank and adjust the air pressure to 5–7 psig (5–8k Pa) with the faucet open. Conversely, if the air pre-charge is too low, adjust...

What to do if there are high Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in the product water of my Sterling Water Filtration System?
    • M
      Mary RoseDec 1, 2025
If you find high Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in the product water of your Sterling Water Filtration System, start by ensuring the feed water pressure is above 40 psig. Check that the R.O. membrane is correctly seated at the bottom of the housing and inspect the membrane's o-rings for damage or absence. Verify the R.O. membrane brine seal is functioning correctly. If the membrane is expended, replace it. Ensure the product and drain water lines are correctly plumbed. A malfunctioning ASO valve (Auto Shutoff valve) could be the cause, so consider replacing it. Clear any clogs in the drain restrictor. If you have an optional air gap faucet, check the drain orifice for blockages. A new, not completely rinsed post-filter or activated carbon pre-filter might also elevate TDS levels; flush with ...
