Do you have a question about the STERWINS ESH2-40.4 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the Electric Shredder ESH2-40.4, a product designed for outdoor use to reduce biodegradable garden organic waste materials into smaller pieces. It is not intended for shredding metal, rocks, bottles, cans, or soft waste like kitchen rubbish. The shredder is designed for private, light domestic use in small spaces and is not suitable for commercial or industrial applications. Its expected lifetime is 5 years.

Function Description:

The Electric Shredder ESH2-40.4 operates with a maximum power input of 2500W (P40). It is designed to be used in a stationary position by an operator standing on the ground. The machine functions by feeding organic waste into a hopper, where a cutting mechanism reduces it to smaller pieces. The processed material is then discharged into a collection bag. The shredder features an ON/OFF switch and a locking knob for operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: ESH2-40.4
  • Rated voltage, frequency: 220-240 V~, 50 Hz
  • Rated power input: 2500 W (P40)
  • Maximum current: 10 A
  • Operating mode: P40:2500W S1:2200W
  • No load speed: 5000 min⁻¹
  • Max. cutting diameter: max. Ø 40 mm
  • Collection bag: 40 L
  • Weight approx.: 10.6 kg
  • Sound pressure level at the operator position LPA: 99.3 dB(A)
  • Uncertainty KPA: 3 dB(A)
  • Measured sound power level LWA: 107 dB(A)
  • Uncertainty KWA: 2.4 dB(A)
  • Guaranteed sound power level LWA (according to 2000/14/EC amended by 2005/88/EC): 110 dB(A)
  • IP degree: IPX4

The sound values are determined according to noise test code EN13683, using basic standards EN ISO 3744 and EN ISO 11094. Ear protection is necessary if the sound intensity level at the operator's position exceeds 85 dB(A).

Usage Features:

Before operation, the shredder must be fully assembled. Users should wear personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, a face mask, earmuffs, protective gloves, a protective overall, and safety boots. The machine should be operated on a firm, level surface, not on paved or gravel surfaces where ejected material could cause injury.

When starting the machine, ensure the feeding chamber is empty. Keep hands, body, and clothing away from the feeding chamber, discharge chute, and any moving parts. Maintain proper balance and footing at all times, avoiding overreaching. Do not stand at a higher level than the machine's base when feeding material. Always stand clear of the discharge zone. Exercise extreme caution when feeding material to avoid including metal pieces, rocks, bottles, cans, or other foreign objects.

If the cutting mechanism strikes a foreign object or if the machine makes unusual noise or vibration, immediately shut off the power source and allow it to stop completely. Disconnect the machine from the power supply and inspect for damage, replace or repair damaged parts, and tighten any loose parts before restarting. Do not allow processed material to accumulate in the discharge zone, as this can prevent proper discharge and cause kickback. If the machine becomes clogged, shut off the power source and disconnect it before cleaning debris. Never operate the machine with defective guards or shields, or without safety devices. Do not tilt the machine while the power source is running.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for safe and efficient operation.

  • Cleaning: After each use, allow the machine to cool for 2 hours before cleaning. Remove the blade from its latch. Keep all safety devices, air vents, and the motor housing free of debris and dirt. Wipe the equipment with a cloth. Avoid using cleaning agents that may damage plastic or weaken the machine's structure.
  • Maintenance Schedule:
    • Blade: Check and clean before/after each use. Replace when necessary (refer to troubleshooting guide).
  • Replacement Parts: When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. The cutting blade (8231-545201) can be replaced by the consumer, ensuring the new blade has the same shape, length, thickness, weight, and material. Spare parts are available from authorized dealers or customer service for up to 5 years after purchase.
  • Storage: Before storing, allow the machine to cool for 2 hours. Secure the unit during transport (remove the blade). Inspect for worn, loose, or damaged parts. Store the machine in a clean, dry, ventilated place with a temperature range of 4°C to 24°C. Cover it for added protection and protect it from direct sunlight, cold, and humidity. Using the original packaging or a suitable cloth is recommended to protect against dust.

Safety Warnings:

The document emphasizes reading all safety warnings and instructions to prevent electric shock, fire, and serious injury. It highlights the importance of keeping the work area clean and well-lit, avoiding explosive atmospheres, and keeping children and bystanders away from the operating area. Electrical safety warnings include matching power tool plugs to outlets, avoiding body contact with earthed surfaces, and protecting power tools from rain or wet conditions. Personal safety warnings advise staying alert, using personal protective equipment (eye and ear protection, sturdy footwear, long trousers, tight-fitted clothing), preventing unintentional starting, and removing adjusting keys before operation. It also warns against overreaching and becoming complacent due to familiarity with the tool.
