5 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
■ If the vegetation being cut or the surrounding ground is
coated with a chemical substance, such as a pesticide,
fertilizer or herbicide:
– Read and follow the instructions and warnings that
accompanied the substance coating the vegetation
or surrounding ground.
5.7.4 Operating Instructions
WARNING
■ In the event of an emergency, switch off the motor
immediately and remove the fuse key and battery.
■ The mowing blade continues to rotate for a short period
after the switch lever is fully released. This is known as the
"flywheel effect." To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury from contact with the mowing blade:
– Wait for the mowing blade to stop before lifting or
carrying the lawn mower.
■ The mower deck of your lawn mower will not protect the
operator from all foreign objects (gravel, glass, wire, etc.)
thrown back by the rotating cutting blade. Thrown objects
may also ricochet and strike the operator, bystanders or
property.
– Avoid discharging material against a wall or
obstruction.
■ The rotating mowing blade may fling foreign objects
directly or by ricochet a great distance. Thrown objects,
including broken mowing blades, may cause serious or
fatal injury to the operator or bystanders. To reduce the
risk of severe personal injury:
– Stay behind the handle when the motor is running or
the cutting blade is turning.
– To reduce the risk of damage to property, also
maintain this distance from such objects as vehicles
and windows.
– Maintaining a minimum distance of 50 ft. (15 m)
cannot eliminate the potential risk of personal injury
and property damage from thrown objects.
– Switch off the motor immediately if you are
approached while working with the lawn mower.
– Never direct discharged material toward anyone.
– Never operate the lawn mower without the grass bag
or rear discharge cover in place and working. Make
sure all safety devices are in place before starting
work.
– Never operate the mower without the side discharge
cover closed or the side discharge guide in place.
■ To reduce the risk of severe personal injuries from
unintentional starting:
– Inspect the work area. Remove stones,
glass, rocks, pieces of metal or other
objects that could be thrown by the
mowing blade, damage the mowing
blade or cause personal injury or
damage to property (e.g., parked
vehicles, windows).
– Always wear proper eye
protection and keep bystanders
at least 50 ft. (15 m) away from
the work area. Any persons who
must enter the restricted area
must also wear proper eye
protection.
– Do not put hands or feet near or under
the machine. Keep clear of the discharge
opening at all times.
– Never touch the mowing blade with your
hand, feet or any other part of your body
while the fuse key and battery are
inserted, even if the mowing blade is not
moving. Keep bystanders at least 50 ft.
(15 m) away.
