Strasbaugh Introduction
Version 4.0 - February 1998; Update 10/19/01 1 - 13
• Ensure that the following CAUTION statement is heeded when
changing carriers:
CAUTION
Do not move the bridge with an unloaded carrier in the
machine. Severe machine damage may result.
• For machines with the Mobile Remote Unit option (SA 219187), the
following CAUTION applies:
CAUTION
During the temporary thirty-second bypass of the
Mobile Remote E.M.O. circuit, the Mobile Remote Unit
E.M.O. button WILL NOT BE OPERABLE! However,
all other machine E.M.O. buttons WILL remain
operable.
• Recommendation Only! Avoid long term exposure to low-frequency
electromagnetic fields. The data concerning low-frequency
electromagnetic health effects is inconclusive, but a 1995 IEEE
engineering publication recommends "prudent avoidance" of
prolonged and continuous exposure. Based upon measured field
strength values in the area of transformers T1, T2, and T3 (with the
panel door open), maintenance personnel are advised to avoid
standing at the open power panel door for extended periods with the
power on. Pregnant women
, in particular, should heed this advice.
Closing the panel door effectively shields all personnel from any
perceived hazardous fields. A five-year study is currently being
conducted by the U. S. Department of Energy to determine what
risks, if any, are posed by low frequency electromagnetic field
exposure.
