The braking
time
should
be
adjusted so
that the tape comes lnto contact wtth the heads immediately
after
the
tape has come to
rest.
Thls should be set
when
stopplng the machine
from
the maxlmum fast-wind
speed.
Thls
stopping
time
is about
three
seconds, during
which the
"playback"
key remalns
locked to avold spllllng or breaklng
the tape. The
braklng time ard
the
tlmlng of the tape lift
mechanlsm are coupled together.

This
precision
timlng indicator should
not
be
lubrlcated
or, lf
necessary,
a
flne
acld-free watch-
oll should be applled carefully and sparingly, If
the recorder
is
operated
in dusty surroundlngs,
it
might become necessary
after
a long
perlod
of operation to clean the tlming
indicator with
alco-
hol
and
to re-grease it
sparlngly.
The tlmlng lndlcator may be removed by undoing
lts three mount-
ing screws, access
to which can be
gained
after
the
plexi-glass
dial
over
the
gulde
roller,
and
the
gulde
roller itself, have been removed. When removing
and
re-fitting the tlming
indlcator, the
washers which control the height, must be replaced correctly.
If several
recorders
are
to be installed side by
side,
the reset-lever of the timlng
lndlcator will
be
dlfficult
to reach. For
such
cases,
an
extension re-set Iever
can be supplled.

Guide
Rollers
The two
guide
rollers which have not been mentioned
so
far,
(
one on the extreme
left and one to
the right of the capstan
)
have
self-lubrlcating
ball-bearlngs whlch
normally do not requlre
any
attention.

of wood and covered
wlth
a synthetlc fabric. The
sync-playback ampllflers
are
mounted on the front
panel
of the console. This
panel
is
mounted on
hlnges and can be
swiv-
eled forward for
servicing.
