depends considerably on
the tape
brand
it ls lmposslble to
predlct
a
certain
amount of
hours. If
a
treble loss
1s deceted

caused
by a disaligned
azlmuth or
partlcels
of
tape
coating on
the head
surface
-
presumably
the
gap
ts
worn
and
the
head has to be replaced.
The replace-
ment
should be
done by well tralned
technlcians only.
If these facllities
are
not
existtng
lt is advlsable to
replace
the
complete head block. For replacement
refer to
chapter C I E Ia
and
E 2a.
The upper main
bearlng

ls equlpped with
a supply of
grease
to last for
lts
llfe tlme, This
supply can be
seen at
the
upper end
of the bearing,
underneath the transparent
plastic
cap.
The units with
seriel numbers from
5031 onwards
have
a special
Iubrlcatlng
nipple on
the capstan motor for
Iubrlcatlng the
ball-trust which
should be olled with
Teresso
43 by means
of
a
sultable
pressure
oller.
Under
no circumstances
should
anv
oil other
than
Teresso 43
be used.
The
spoollng motors
have no lubricating
points
ard
do not
generally
require
any speclal servlcing.
The capstan
should be
replaced
when the
grease
in
the bearing under the
plastlc
cap has
been used up.
The
grease
reservolr
under the
plastic
cap of the
bea-
ring is designed to
last
for
the entire IIfe
of the
capstan.
