Why does my Summit Professional ALWC15 Wine Cooler make so much noise?
    • R
      Rachel BeasleySep 23, 2025
A rattling or gurgling noise may come from the flow of the refrigerant, which is normal. If temperature fluctuations occur, the contraction and expansion of the inner walls may cause popping and crackling noises. If the noise seems excessive, ensure the appliance is properly leveled with the adjustable feet.

What to do if my Summit Professional ALWC15 Wine Cooler alarm sounds and the temperature display flashes?
    • S
      Scott FisherSep 4, 2025
If the alarm sounds and the temperature display flashes on your Summit Professional Wine Cooler, first check if the door has been open for longer than 60 seconds and close it. If not, the temperature may have risen or fallen beyond the set temperature due to: * The door being opened too often. * The ventilation opening being covered or dusty. * A power interruption. * Too many bottles inside. Address these issues by limiting door openings, clearing ventilation obstructions, and allowing the unit time to stabilize after a power interruption or after adding a large number of bottles.

Overview

This document is a user manual for Summit Professional Wine Cellars. It provides detailed instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance of various models.

Function Description

Summit Professional Wine Cellars are designed for storing and cooling beverages, specifically wine. They are suitable for both built-in, recessed, and free-standing indoor installations. The units are equipped with cooling systems that maintain specific temperature ranges, ideal for wine maturation or serving. Some models feature dual temperature zones, allowing for different types of wine to be stored at their optimal temperatures simultaneously. The appliances are designed to be environmentally friendly, using Isobutane (R600a) refrigerant.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual outlines several technical specifications crucial for proper installation and operation:

  • Refrigerant: Isobutane (R600a), an environmentally friendly, but flammable, hydrocarbon refrigerant.
  • Electrical Supply: Standard 115 V AC, 60 Hz, properly grounded.
  • Fuse/Circuit Breaker Size: 15 amperes.
  • Refrigerant Quantity: For every ounce of coolant, at least 325 cubic feet of room space is required. The exact amount of coolant is stated on the appliance's data plate.
  • Ambient Temperature Range: Recommended between 72°F (23°C) and 78°F (26°C) for optimal performance. Not to be installed in locations where temperatures fall below 60°F (16°C).
  • Temperature Control Range: From 41°F (5°C) to 68°F (20°C) for single zone models. Dual zone models also operate within this range, with recommended settings for upper and lower zones.
  • Ventilation: For freestanding installation, 5" (127mm) of space at the back and sides, and 4" (102mm) at the top are suggested. For built-in installations, at least ¼" (5mm) on each side, 2" (50mm) at the back, and ½" (3mm) at the top are recommended. Front air vents must never be covered. For fully integrated built-in-column units, ventilation gaps in the plinth should be at least 300 square centimeters.
  • Bottle Capacity: Varies by model; approximate maximum capacity is achieved when storing traditional 750 ml Bordeaux bottles in bulk.

Usage Features

The wine cellars offer several features to enhance user experience and wine preservation:

  • Digital Control Panel: Allows for precise temperature setting and monitoring.
  • Single and Dual Zone Models: Single zone models maintain a uniform temperature throughout the cabinet. Dual zone models (e.g., SWC1875B, VC60D, SWC1966 with non-Twin Wine Conditioning System) allow for two distinct temperature zones, typically an upper zone for champagne/white wine and a lower zone for red wine.
  • Adjustable Temperature Settings: Users can increase or decrease the set temperature using UP and DOWN symbols. The display flashes during setting and then reverts to showing the current internal temperature.
  • ON/OFF Power: The appliance can be turned on or off by pressing and holding the power key for a specified duration.
  • Interior LED Light: Provides illumination for viewing wine labels. It can be toggled between "functional" (energy-saving, lights on only when door is open) and "showcase" (lights always on) modes. LED lights are designed for long life and do not adversely affect wine with heat or UV light.
  • Settings Mode: Allows for customization of various parameters:
    • °F/°C Selection: Choose between Fahrenheit and Celsius display.
    • Display Brightness: Adjust the brightness of the LED display (d1: dimmest, d2: medium, d3: brightest).
    • Interior Lighting Brightness: Adjust the brightness of the interior lights (L1: dimmest, L2: medium, L3: brightest).
    • Fan Mode: Select between "Silent mode - Energy saving mode" (F0, fan off once target temperature is reached) and "Dynamic Cooling mode" (F1: half time, F2: full time, fan cycles to circulate air for consistent humidity and temperature distribution).
    • Audible Tones: Configure audible alarms for sensor tone and alarm tone (S0-S3 options).
  • Sabbath Mode: A feature for religious observance that turns off displays, interior lights, and audible alarms for 48 hours while normal cooling operations continue. Activated by pressing POWER and LIGHT keys simultaneously for 5 seconds.
  • Temperature Memory Function: In case of a power interruption, the unit remembers previous temperature settings and restores them when power is recovered.
  • Temperature Alarm/Door Alarm: An audible alarm sounds if the storage temperature is too high or if the door is left open for more than 60 seconds. The temperature display flashes with the alarm.
  • Door Lock: Some models are equipped with a lock system for security.
  • Reversible Door Swing: The door can be configured to open from either the left or right side, providing flexibility for installation.
  • Adjustable Kick Plate: Allows for height adjustment of the kick plate to achieve a seamless built-in look.
  • Adjustable Legs: Front leveling legs allow for proper leveling of the unit.
  • Shelves: Designed to accommodate wine bottles, with some models allowing for removal of shelves to store larger items. Shelves slide out for easy access.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides guidelines for maintaining the appliance:

  • Cleaning:
    • Unplug the appliance before cleaning.
    • Interior surfaces should be cleaned with lukewarm water and baking soda solution.
    • Shelves should be washed with a mild detergent solution.
    • Exterior cabinet should be cleaned with warm water and mild liquid detergent.
    • Avoid using solvent-based cleaning agents, abrasives, steel wool, or steel brushes on the interior or stainless steel surfaces.
  • Defrosting: The unit features automatic defrosting. Condensate collects in a drainage channel and evaporates. Manual defrosting may be required if frost accumulates due to frequent door openings in high heat/humidity environments and does not clear within 24 hours.
  • Power Failure: Minimize door openings during power failures to protect contents. For long power outages, remove items and turn off the appliance.
  • Vacations:
    • Short vacations (less than three weeks): Leave the appliance operating.
    • Long vacations (several months): Remove all items, turn off the appliance, clean and dry the interior, and leave the door slightly open to prevent odor and mold.
  • Moving: Remove all items, secure loose parts (shelves), raise adjustable legs, tape the door shut, and ensure the appliance remains upright during transport.
  • Energy-Saving Tips: Locate the appliance in the coolest area of the room, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Ensure adequate ventilation and avoid covering air vents. Do not keep the door open longer than necessary.
  • Service: Repairs and replacement of components should be performed by factory-authorized service personnel. Interior LED lights are not user-serviceable and require contacting the service department for replacement.
