The Info-Mate® World Band Generator & Solar Portable Radio (Cat. No. 837) is a versatile multiband radio designed for emergency preparedness and everyday use. It offers multiple power sources, a wide range of reception bands, and user-friendly features.

Function Description:

The Info-Mate® radio is a solar, dynamo, AC, or vehicle-powered portable multiband radio designed to provide high-quality sound. It features a multi-band tuner that allows listening to shortwave radio, foreign broadcast VHF television audio, National Weather Service, and commercial aircraft transmissions. Its portable design makes it suitable for use anywhere, whether indoors or outdoors, at work, or at play. Key features include:

  • Power/Tuning Indicator: Indicates when the power is on or off and the desired tuning frequency.
  • Low Battery Indicator: Indicates that the rechargeable battery is low and needs recharging.
  • Solar Cells: Allows for solar power recharging.
  • Dynamo: Allows for dynamo power recharging.
  • Automatic Frequency Control (AFC): Allows for drift-free FM reception with reduced sound distortion.

Usage Features:

The Info-Mate® radio offers multiple ways to power and operate, making it highly adaptable:

  • Using Solar Power: Place the radio in full sunlight. The red "FULL SUNLIGHT" indicator will illuminate. Allow 12 hours of recharging for full battery energy.
  • Using Dynamo Power: Turn the dynamo crank clockwise for approximately one minute for 15 minutes of continuous radio operation.
  • Using Standard AC Power: Connect the recommended AC adapter (12 volts, 100 mA) to the DC 12V jack and plug into a wall socket. This method allows for immediate operation and charging of Ni-Cad batteries.
  • Using Vehicle Power: Connect the recommended DC adapter (12 volts, 100 mA) to the DC 12V jack and plug into a vehicle's cigarette lighter socket. This provides immediate operation and charging.
  • Playing the Radio: Turn the VOLUME knob clockwise until it clicks to turn on the radio. The power/tuning indicator will light up. Select the desired band (AM/FM/TV1/TV2/AIR/VHF/WX) and adjust TUNING.
  • Listening Safely: Avoid listening at extremely high volume levels to prevent permanent hearing loss. Start with the lowest volume, then gradually increase.
  • Earphones: Insert an earphone (not supplied) into the earphone jack for private listening. This automatically disconnects the built-in speaker.
  • Antenna Adjustment: Rotate the radio for best AM reception. Fully extend and swivel the telescoping antenna for best SW, FM, TV1, TV2, AIR, VHF, and WX reception.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Care: Keep the radio dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Handle the radio carefully to prevent damage to the case and circuit boards. Keep it away from dust and dirt.
  • Cleaning: Wipe the radio occasionally with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents.
  • Battery Care: Use only Ni-Cad rechargeable batteries. Do not use "AA" Alkaline batteries, as the radio will only charge Ni-Cds.
  • FCC Information: The radio complies with limits specified in Part 15 of FCC Rules, providing reasonable protection against radio and TV interference.
  • Warranty: Modifying or tampering with the radio's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its guaranty and void the warranty. The limited warranty covers defects in workmanship or material for 30 days from the date of original purchase at retail.
