This document is a user guide for the Sunbeam Aspire Kettle Quiet Shield, model KE9151, part of the Sunbeam Master Series. It provides essential information on safety precautions, features, usage, and maintenance of the electric kettle.
The Sunbeam Aspire Kettle Quiet Shield is an electric kettle designed for boiling water in household and similar applications. Its primary function is to heat water quickly and efficiently, incorporating a "Quiet Shield" technology to reduce boiling noise. The kettle is equipped with a 3-Way Safety System to ensure safe operation by automatically switching off after boiling, providing boil-dry protection, and shutting down in case of overheating.
The Aspire Kettle is designed for user convenience and safety.
Filling the Kettle: To fill, the kettle can be removed from its power base. The hinged locking lid opens at the push of a button on the handle, allowing for one-handed use and easy filling from a tap. Alternatively, water can be poured directly through the pouring spout. It is crucial to fill the kettle between the minimum (0.5L) and maximum (1.7L) marks. Overfilling may cause boiling water to spill from the spout, while underfilling may cause the kettle to switch off before the water has boiled.
Operation: After filling, place the kettle on its 360-degree cordless power base and connect the plug to a 230/240 Volt AC power outlet, then turn the power ON at the outlet. Press the ON/OFF button downwards at the base of the kettle. Boiling indicators beneath the water gauges will illuminate, signifying that the kettle is heating. The kettle will automatically switch off once the water has boiled. It is important to ensure the ON/OFF switch is clear of obstructions and the lid is firmly closed, as the kettle will not turn off if either is compromised. The kettle should not be removed from the power base while water is heating.
Pouring: Use caution when pouring boiling water to avoid scalding.
Storage: The kettle can be stored on its power base when not in use. The cord storage facility underneath the power base allows excess cord to be wound around it for neat storage.
Boil-Dry Protection: If the kettle is accidentally operated without water, the boil-dry protection will automatically switch it off. In such cases, allow the kettle to cool before refilling with cold water and re-boiling.
Quiet Shield Technology: The kettle features Sunbeam's exclusive Quiet Shield technology, which uses a perforated stainless steel diffuser plate on the kettle floor. This plate helps disperse and reduce the size of water bubbles during boiling, significantly lowering the noise level.
Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the Aspire Kettle, especially to maintain its Quiet Shield technology.
Cleaning the Exterior: The brushed stainless steel exterior can be wiped with a damp cloth and polished with a soft dry cloth. Avoid using chemicals, steel wool, or abrasive cleaners, as these can scratch the stainless steel surface.
Cleaning the Mesh Filter: To clean the mesh filter, open the hinged lid by pressing the button on the handle. Grasp the top of the mesh filter and pull it upwards to remove. Wash the filter in warm, soapy water and dry it thoroughly before replacing it in the kettle.
Cleaning the Concealed Heating Element: Over time, mineral scale may build up on the concealed stainless steel heating element, causing discolouration that might resemble rust. This is not rust. To clean, use a green Scotchbrite® scourer or similar with a suitable abrasive cleaning cream. Rinse thoroughly with tap water before using the kettle again.
Descaling: Mineral deposits (lime scale and phosphate scale) from tap water can solidify when heated, reducing the effectiveness of the Quiet Boil technology, causing discolouration of the water gauge, overheating, triggering the boil-dry cut-out, and shortening the kettle's life. Sunbeam recommends descaling the kettle every 4-6 weeks, even in soft water areas. Failure to descale regularly may be considered negligent handling and could void the 12-month guarantee.
Descaling Methods:
General Cleaning Precautions: Always disconnect the kettle from the power outlet before cleaning. Never immerse the kettle's switch area, cord, or power base in water, and prevent moisture from coming into contact with these parts.
