This document describes the SuperFish Pond Clear Filter 3000, 3000 Kit, 6000 Kit, and 12000 Kit, which are pond filters with built-in UVC (Ultraviolet-C) devices, suitable for outdoor use.
Function Description:
The SuperFish Pond Clear Filter is designed for cleaning pond water. It integrates a UVC device to help control algae and ensure clear water. The filter operates by drawing pond water through its inlet, passing it through filter media and the UVC lamp, and then returning the cleaned water to the pond via the outlet. The UVC device emits UV-C radiation to sterilize the water, effectively killing harmful bacteria, viruses, and free-floating algae, contributing to a healthier pond environment. The filter should only be used for pond water and not for other liquids or chemicals. The UVC device must only be switched on when there is sufficient water flow to prevent overheating and damage to the lamp.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Water Temperature: The filter is designed for use with water temperatures not exceeding 35°C.
- UVC Radiation: The device emits UV-C radiation, which can cause serious eye damage and/or skin damage. The UV lamp must always be completely shielded from the eyes. Never look at a burning UV lamp.
- Electrical Safety: The device must be supplied through a Residual Current Device (RCD) with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30 mA. It must be connected to an earthed socket.
- UV Lamp Specifications (for replacement):
- Pond Clear 3000: SuperFish UV Clear PL lamp 5 Watt, G23-105 mm (Art. 06011005).
- Pond Clear 6000: SuperFish UV Clear PL lamp 7 Watt, G23-135 mm (Art. 06011010).
- Pond Clear 12000: SuperFish UV Clear PL lamp 13 Watt, G23-236 mm SP (Art. 06011023).
- Quartz Glass Replacement Kit (for breakage):
- Pond Clear 3000: Art. 06011300.
- Pond Clear 6000: Art. 06011305.
- Pond Clear 12000: Art. 06011310.
- Installation Distance: The filter should be installed at a minimum distance of 50 cm from the pond.
- Outlet Pipe Length: If an extension pipe is used for the filter outlet, its horizontal length should not exceed 1 meter to avoid pressure buildup.
Usage Features:
- Outdoor Use: The filter is specifically designed for outdoor pond environments.
- Placement: It should be placed in a dry and sheltered location, away from direct sunlight.
- Water Flow Requirement: The UVC device must only be switched on when there is adequate water flow through the filter. Running it without water can cause damage.
- Filter Inlet Position: The filter inlet must be positioned higher than the water level in the pond to prevent overflow.
- Hose Connection: The hose connection should be cut to the same diameter as the hose. It's recommended to unscrew the hose connection from the filter before cutting to prevent damage.
- Pond Pump Connection: The pond pump connects to the filter inlet using a pond hose and hose clamps (C-a).
- Filter Outlet: The filter outlet should be placed above the pond. It should never be blocked or reduced, as this could lead to filter overflow and an empty pond.
- Drip Loop: A drip loop should be created in the power cord to prevent water from reaching the electrical socket (Fig. A).
- UV Lamp Indicator: The function of the UV lamp can be checked through the control window in the filter lid (C-b).
Maintenance Features:
- Regular Cleaning: The filter should be cleaned regularly. For heavily polluted ponds, filter mats may need daily cleaning initially. Otherwise, the filter should be rinsed with tap water at least once a month.
- Filter Mat Replacement: Filter mats should be replaced annually.
- Bio-Ball Cleaning: Bio-balls should be cleaned one to two times a year in a bucket filled with pond water to preserve beneficial bacteria. Do not use tap water for this.
- UVC Device Cleaning: The UVC device should be cleaned twice a year. If algae growth increases, the UVC device should be checked, cleaned, and the UV lamp replaced if necessary.
- UV Lamp Cooling: Before any maintenance on the UVC device, allow the lamp to cool for at least 10 minutes after switching it off, as it becomes warm.
- Disassembly for Maintenance:
- Remove the UVC protective cover (D-c) by releasing it from the lock (D-d).
- Slide open the green lock (E-e) to unlock the unit head.
- Turn the unit head counter-clockwise to the stop and carefully pull the UV unit out of the housing (E-f).
- Loosen the screw (F-g) and the union nut (F-h). Carefully pull off the quartz glass including the rubber gasket (F-j) with a slight twisting motion (use work gloves).
- Quartz Glass Cleaning: Gently clean the outside of the quartz glass with a soft cloth and SuperFish Pump & UVC Clean. Rinse thoroughly with clean tap water and check for damage. Replace the quartz glass if damaged (to prevent glass breakage).
- UV Lamp Replacement: The UV lamp should be replaced annually, even if it still lights up, as its UV radiation diminishes after approximately 8000 operating hours.
- Reassembly:
- Remove the UV lamp with the lamp clip (G-k) and lamp protection ring (G-l), and remove the O-ring (G-m) from the unit head. Clean the unit head and O-ring, then place the O-ring back on the head (G).
- Insert the (new) UV lamp, including the lamp protection ring and clip, into the socket of the unit head (G).
- Carefully slide the quartz glass with the conical rubber gasket (H-j) over the UV lamp and insert it into the unit head (grease the outside of the rubber gasket with some petroleum jelly).
- Slide the union nut (I-h) over the quartz glass and tighten it firmly onto the unit head until the recess is positioned over the screw hole (requires some force, use work gloves).
- Reinsert the screw (I-g) to secure the union nut.
- Reinsert the head with the lamp and quartz glass into the housing. Turn it clockwise to the stop and slide the green lock closed (J).
- Replace the UVC protective cover on the filter lid and snap it into place.
- Frost Protection: In winter, when the system is not in use, the filter should be deinstalled to prevent frost damage.
- Overheating Prevention: To prevent the UVC device from overheating, switch off the filter as soon as water stops flowing through it.
- Safety during Maintenance: Always switch off all devices in the pond and disconnect the plug(s) from the socket before maintenance. Do not operate with wet hands; dry hands before carrying out maintenance.
- Damaged Parts: Do not use the product if the device, quartz glass, cord, or plug is damaged. Replace the quartz glass or return the device to your dealer for repair or recycling. If the power cord or plug is damaged, the electrical part should be replaced.
