Overview

The Supro Delta King 12 is a tube amplifier designed for guitarists seeking a versatile and authentic tube tone. This user manual provides essential information for operating and maintaining the amplifier, ensuring safe and optimal performance.

Function Description

The Delta King 12 is a 15-watt, 1x12 combo amplifier that delivers a range of classic Supro tones, from clean and articulate to gritty and overdriven. It features a single-channel design with a comprehensive set of controls to sculpt your sound. The preamp section is responsible for shaping the initial tone and gain, while the power section provides the amplifier's overall volume and characteristic tube breakup. The amplifier is equipped with a 12AX7/ECC83 preamp tube and a 6L6 5881 power tube, both contributing to its 100% analog tube sound.

The amplifier's front panel includes an input jack for your instrument, a Volume control to adjust preamp gain, and a three-band EQ (Treble, Mids, Bass) for precise tonal shaping. A Reverb control allows you to add lush spring reverb to your signal, enhancing the amplifier's ambient capabilities. The Master control governs the overall output volume and the amount of power section breakup, enabling you to achieve saturated tones at various volume levels.

For added versatility, the Delta King 12 incorporates Boost and Drive functions. The Boost switch activates a gain boost, providing extra saturation and sustain for solos or heavier rhythm playing. The Drive switch engages an overdrive mode, offering a distinct overdriven tone. Both Boost and Drive functions are footswitchable, allowing for seamless transitions during live performance.

The rear panel of the amplifier offers additional connectivity options. A Boost/Drive FTSW (footswitch) jack allows you to connect a two-button, latching footswitch for remote control of the Boost and Drive functions. The Line Out provides a buffered preamp output, useful for connecting to another amplifier, a mixing console for recording, or external effects processors. The Power Amp Input is a direct injection point for the 6L6 power amplifier. This feature allows you to bypass the Delta King 12's preamp and use an external preamp or modeling hardware, effectively utilizing the amplifier's Class-A tube power section with a different front end.

Usage Features

To begin using the Delta King 12, ensure all connections are secure and the amplifier is placed in a well-ventilated area, with at least four inches of space behind the rear panel. Start by plugging your instrument into the Input jack on the front panel.

The power-up sequence is crucial for tube longevity and proper operation. First, turn on the Power switch, located on the front panel. The pilot light should illuminate, indicating that AC mains voltage is flowing to the amplifier. Allow the amplifier to warm up for at least one minute with the Power switch on and the Standby switch in the OFF position. This allows the tubes to reach their optimal operating temperature. After the warm-up period, set the Volume control to a reasonable position, then switch the Standby switch to ON. The amplifier is now ready to produce sound. For short breaks (5 minutes or less) during playing, using the Standby switch to temporarily mute the amplifier will help extend tube life.

Experiment with the Volume, Treble, Mids, and Bass controls to dial in your desired clean or slightly overdriven tones. Engage the Boost or Drive switches to explore higher gain sounds. The Reverb control can be adjusted to add depth and spaciousness to your sound. The Master control allows you to fine-tune the overall output volume and the amount of power tube saturation.

When using the footswitch, connect a TRS cable from the Boost/Drive FTSW jack on the rear panel to your two-button latching footswitch. This will enable you to toggle the Boost and Drive functions remotely.

The Line Out feature is useful for recording or sending your preamp signal to a larger sound system. The Power Amp Input provides an advanced option for integrating the Delta King 12's power section with other preamps or modeling units, expanding your tonal possibilities.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is essential for ensuring years of trouble-free service from your Supro Delta King 12. Always refer to the important safety information provided in the manual before performing any maintenance.

Regular cleaning with a dry cloth is recommended to keep the amplifier free from dust and debris. Avoid using liquid cleaners, as moisture can damage internal components. Ensure that the ventilation openings are not blocked by any objects, as proper airflow is critical for preventing overheating and extending the life of the tubes and other components.

Tube replacement should be performed by qualified service personnel or by contacting Supro directly. Tubes have a finite lifespan and will eventually need to be replaced. If you experience a loss of sound or a change in tone, the tubes may be a contributing factor.

In the event of no sound but the pilot light is ON, first check that the speaker is properly plugged into the speaker jack (not the footswitch jack). Verify that all knobs are turned up past zero and that the Standby switch is set to ON. Remember that tube amplifiers require a warm-up period of approximately one minute before producing sound.

If there is no sound and all lights are OFF, unplug the power cord and check the fuse. The manual specifies a 3A, 250V fuse for 100V-120V operation and a 2A, 250V fuse for 220V-240V operation. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a fuse of the correct rating. If the problem persists after checking these points, it is recommended to contact Supro support for further assistance.

Avoid exposing the amplifier to rain or moisture, as this can lead to electric shock or fire. Do not place objects filled with liquid, such as vases, on the amplifier. The amplifier contains no user-serviceable parts inside beyond the fuse, so do not attempt to remove the cover or back of the product. All other servicing should be referred to qualified personnel. This includes instances where the power supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled, objects have fallen into the apparatus, or if the apparatus has been dropped or is not operating normally.
