Overview

The Supro Delta King 8 is a tube amplifier designed for guitarists seeking a classic, all-analog tone with modern features. This user manual provides essential information for safe operation, understanding its anatomy, and basic troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Delta King 8 functions as a compact, all-tube guitar amplifier, delivering a range of tones from clean to overdriven. Its core functionality revolves around a tube-driven preamp and power section, providing the characteristic warmth and dynamic response associated with vintage tube amplifiers. The amplifier is designed to be responsive to playing dynamics, allowing players to control the level of breakup with their touch.

Usage Features

The amplifier's front panel offers intuitive controls for shaping your sound. The INPUT jack is where you connect your instrument. The VOLUME knob controls the gain of the preamp section. Higher settings on this control will introduce more preamp breakup, leading to a richer, more saturated tone. The BOOST switch, which is also foot-switchable (with an optional footswitch), activates a boost function, further enhancing the amplifier's gain capabilities for solos or heavier rhythm playing. The TONE control allows you to adjust the balance between bass and treble frequencies, enabling you to dial in a bright, cutting tone or a warmer, darker sound. The MASTER knob controls the overall volume and the amount of power section breakup. This is a crucial control for achieving cranked-amp tones at lower volumes, making the Delta King 8 suitable for various playing environments, from bedroom practice to small gigs.

Operating the amplifier involves a specific power-up sequence to ensure tube longevity and proper function. The POWER SWITCH turns on the AC power, illuminating the PILOT LIGHT to indicate that the amplifier is receiving power. After turning on the power, it's recommended to wait at least one minute for the tubes to warm up before engaging the STANDBY SWITCH. The Standby switch applies high voltage to the tubes, bringing the amplifier to full operational status. For short breaks (5 minutes or less), using the Standby switch can help extend tube life. It's important to ensure the Volume control is set to a reasonable position before switching the amplifier ON, as it can be very loud.

The rear panel expands the amplifier's versatility. The BOOST FTSW jack allows for the connection of a latching footswitch (not included) to remotely activate or deactivate the Boost function, providing hands-free control during performance. The LINE OUT provides a buffered preamp output, which can be connected to another amplifier for expanded sound, or directly to a recording console for studio or live sound applications. This feature allows you to capture the amplifier's preamp tone without needing to mic the speaker, offering flexibility for recording and live sound reinforcement.

The Delta King 8 is an all-analog, 100% tube amplifier, utilizing a 12AX7/ECC83 tube in the preamp section and a 12AU7/ECC82 tube in the power section. These tubes are integral to its sound and character.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance and adherence to safety guidelines are crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the Delta King 8. The manual emphasizes several important safety instructions, including reading and following all instructions, keeping the apparatus away from water, cleaning only with a dry cloth, and ensuring proper ventilation. It's vital not to block any ventilation openings and to install the amplifier away from heat sources. The power cord should be protected from being walked on or pinched, and only manufacturer-specified attachments and accessories should be used. In case of lightning storms or prolonged periods of disuse, the amplifier should be unplugged.

Servicing should always be referred to qualified personnel, especially if the apparatus has been damaged, exposed to moisture, or is not operating normally. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the cover or back of the product. For tube replacement, users are advised to contact Supro directly or a qualified person.

Troubleshooting common issues is also covered. If there's no sound but the pilot light is ON, users should check the speaker connection, ensure all knobs are above zero, and confirm the Standby switch is engaged after the recommended warm-up period. If there's no sound and all lights are OFF, the power cord should be unplugged, and the 1A, 250V fuse should be checked. For further questions, Supro provides an email address for support.

The product comes with a limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the original purchase date, extendable to two years upon registration at http://suprousa.com/warranty. Tubes and speakers have a 90-day warranty. The warranty applies only to the original retail purchaser and requires product registration within sixty days of purchase, along with proof of purchase. The warranty covers the cost of labor and materials for necessary repairs but does not cover damage due to misuse, negligence, accidents, improper operation, shipping damages, or alterations to the product or serial number. It also excludes subjective tonal characteristics, normal wear and tear, and purchases from unauthorized dealers. The manual explicitly states that Supro disclaims all other express and implied warranties beyond the specific provisions outlined. To file a warranty claim, users must register their product and complete the warranty request form available on the Supro website.
