Overview

The Suraielec Smart Wi-Fi Box Timer Switch, SKU: T40W, is a versatile and intelligent device designed to automate the control of electrical equipment. This smart box integrates Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing users to manage their connected devices remotely through a smartphone application. Its primary function is to provide scheduled power control, enhancing convenience, energy efficiency, and security for various applications, from residential lighting and appliances to hot water heaters and pumps.

Function Description

At its core, the Suraielec Smart Wi-Fi Box Timer Switch acts as a programmable timer and remote switch for electrical loads. It features two independent normally open (isolated contact) circuits, labeled S1 and S2, each capable of handling significant electrical currents, making it suitable for a wide range of devices. The device automatically detects the input voltage (120-240/277VAC, 60Hz), eliminating the need for manual configuration via DIP switches.

The smart box's Wi-Fi capability allows it to connect to a 2.4GHz wireless network (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n), providing a wireless range of up to 80 feet in open areas. This connectivity enables remote control and programming through the "Smart Life" application, which is compatible with iOS 8.0 or higher and Android 4.1 or higher devices.

Users can turn devices on or off in two ways: directly by pressing the power button on the smart box itself, or remotely through the Smart Life app. The app offers comprehensive timer functions, including:

  • Program: This feature allows users to set specific start and end times for connected devices over a 7-day period, with 1-minute intervals. Each program set repeats weekly, providing consistent automation for recurring tasks.
  • Countdown: Users can set a countdown timer for a specified number of hours and minutes. Once activated, the smart box will maintain its current state (on or off) until the countdown concludes, after which it automatically terminates the countdown mode.
  • Random: This function adds a security element by turning devices on or off at random times, typically +/-30 minutes from the set ON/OFF time. This simulates occupancy when users are away from home, deterring potential intruders.
  • Repeat: This advanced scheduling option allows users to define a duration for both ON and OFF cycles, along with a start and end time for the overall schedule. The ON/OFF cycles will then repeat continuously within the specified time frame and selected days. For example, a pump could be set to turn on for 5 minutes and off for 10 minutes, repeating between 6:00 AM and 11:30 AM on specific days.

The device also includes visual indicators: a red Power Indicator to show input status (solid for normal, no light for abnormal), a blue Load Indicator to show if power is on or off (solid for on, no light for off), and a blue Wi-Fi LED Indicator to communicate network status (blinking rapidly for resetting/network configuration, blinking slowly until off for successful configuration).

Usage Features

The Suraielec Smart Wi-Fi Box Timer Switch is designed for ease of use and integration into smart home ecosystems.

  • Remote Control via Smart Life App: The core of its functionality lies in the Smart Life app, which provides an intuitive interface for managing all aspects of the timer switch. Users can download the app by scanning a QR code or searching in app stores, then register an account to begin.
  • Simple Device Addition: Adding the smart box to the app involves a straightforward process: tapping the "+" icon, selecting "Socket Wi-Fi," choosing the Wi-Fi network, entering the password, and then long-pressing the program button on the smart box until the blue light flashes, followed by pressing "next" in the app.
  • Integration with Voice Assistants: The device is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Users can link their Smart Life account to these voice assistants, enabling voice commands to control the smart box. This involves enabling the "Smart Life" skill in the Alexa app or adding "Smart Life" as a device in the Google Home app.
  • Device Sharing: The Smart Life app allows users to share control of the smart box with family members, friends, or roommates, providing multi-user access to the connected devices.
  • Flexible Installation: The smart box features five 1/2" to 3/4" combination knockouts for wiring, accommodating different conduit sizes. It is designed for upright, vertical installation and includes mounting holes for secure attachment to a surface.
  • Automatic Voltage Detection: The device simplifies installation by automatically detecting the input voltage (120-240/277VAC), eliminating the need for manual voltage selection.
  • Clear Wiring Diagrams: The manual provides detailed wiring diagrams for various applications, including controlling one or two 120VAC loads, two 277VAC loads, and a hot water heater, making the wiring process clear for electricians.
  • Robust Contact Ratings: With high contact ratings for resistive, general purpose, ballasted, and tungsten loads, as well as motor loads (1HP, 120VAC; 2HP, 240VAC), the smart box can handle a wide array of electrical equipment.

Maintenance Features

While the device itself requires minimal maintenance, the manual emphasizes several points for ensuring its longevity and proper operation:

  • Professional Installation: The device must be installed by a licensed electrician, ensuring adherence to national and local electrical code requirements and proper grounding. This is crucial for both safety and optimal performance.
  • Power Disconnection During Servicing: Before any installation or servicing, power must be turned off at the main panel or circuit breaker(s) to prevent electrical shock.
  • Proper Wiring Practices: The use of #14-#8 AWG copper conductors rated at least 75°C (167°F) is specified. It is critical to ensure no wire insulation is under the terminal plate and to firmly tighten terminal screws. The insulator covering terminals should not be removed.
  • Grounding: When metallic conduit is used, grounding type bushings and jumper wire must be installed, as the enclosure does not provide grounding between conduit connections. A grounded wire must always be connected to the grounding terminal.
  • Environmental Protection: The rainproof door must always be kept closed when not servicing to protect internal components from the elements. The device is designed to operate within a temperature range of -40°F to 149°F.
  • Wi-Fi Signal Strength: For reliable operation, the smart box should be installed where the Wi-Fi signal is strong. Obstructions, metal objects, distance from the router, and weather can affect Wi-Fi range. The unit should be as close to the router as possible.
  • Troubleshooting Guidance: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as connectivity problems with the Smart Life app, the device going offline, or difficulties with Alexa/Google Assistant integration. This includes checking Wi-Fi signal strength, ensuring a secure 2.4GHz network, verifying account logins, and resetting/reconfiguring the smart box if necessary.
  • Firmware Updates: The "Smart Life" app undergoes continuous updates and improvements, meaning the user interface may appear slightly different over time. Users are advised to follow in-app instructions for any changes.
  • Circuit Breaker Requirement: The manual explicitly states to use the product together with a 40A circuit breaker upstream, which is a critical safety and protection measure.
