Align index pointer with bearing, then align needle with orienting arrow. Use base plate or mirror line for direction.
Place base plate on map, align capsule meridian lines with map meridians, N on bezel to map North.
Turn bezel to 270°, position compass parallel to surface, allow pointer to turn freely. Read angle at pointer.
Aim along base plate edge, read mirror angle at clinometer pointer. Use H = D tan α for conversion.
