Overview

The Swann NHD-805 is a 720p Network Video Camera designed for use with Swann 720p NVRs, providing a comprehensive solution for home and business security monitoring. This camera delivers clear high-definition images and videos in both day and nighttime conditions, even in complete darkness, making it a versatile addition to any Swann NVR monitoring setup.

Function Description:

The NHD-805 is a security camera that captures video at 720p resolution. It is equipped with infrared (IR) LEDs for night vision, allowing it to record in low-light or no-light environments. An illumination sensor detects ambient light levels and automatically activates the IR LEDs when necessary. The camera is designed to be weatherproof, suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations. Its integrated 3-axis mounting bracket offers flexible positioning on walls or ceilings. The camera connects to a Swann NVR via an Ethernet cable, and once connected, it is automatically detected and assigned an IP address by the NVR. Users can view the camera's feed and configure its settings through the NVR's interface or via the SwannView Link PC software.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Resolution: 720p
  • Connectivity: Network (LAN) via Ethernet cable
  • Night Vision: IR LEDs with an illumination sensor
  • Mounting: 3-axis mounting bracket for wall or ceiling installation
  • Weatherproofing: Designed for indoor/outdoor use, though sheltered outdoor installation is recommended for long-term performance.
  • Default Account Configuration:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: 12345

Usage Features:

  • Flexible Installation: The camera's design and 3-axis mounting bracket allow for installation on various flat surfaces, including hardwood, brick, masonry, and metal (with appropriate hardware). It can be positioned to monitor entrances, exits, or specific areas of interest.
  • Optimal Viewing Angle: For best results, it is recommended to install the camera approximately 7ft (2m) to 10ft (3m) high, looking slightly downwards. The camera's angle can be adjusted using an L-wrench to loosen hex screws for tilt (up/down), rotation (left/right), and orientation (spinning the camera behind the lens hood).
  • Automatic NVR Detection: When connected to a Swann NVR, the camera is automatically detected and configured, simplifying the setup process. It will appear on the first available channel of the NVR.
  • Remote Viewing and Configuration: The camera's live video feed and settings can be accessed and managed via the SwannView Link PC software, provided the PC is on the same local network as the camera. This allows for customization of various parameters such as Anti-flicker, Exposure Mode, Contextual, Day/Night, Backlight, Mirroring, and Rotation.
  • Night Vision Capability: The IR LEDs enable clear imaging in dark conditions. However, users should be mindful of bright light sources in the camera's view, which can prevent night vision from engaging, or reflective surfaces that can cause IR light to bounce back and blind the camera.
  • Security Best Practices: It is advised to install the camera out of reach of vandals, such as under eaves or in protected corners of a wall. For outdoor installations, it is highly recommended to use waterproof tape to protect the cable connection area between the camera's LAN port and the extension cable's Ethernet plug to prevent moisture ingress.

Maintenance Features:

  • Password Reset: If the Admin account's password is forgotten, the camera can be reset to its factory default password (12345). This is done by unplugging the camera's power connector, pressing and holding the Reset button, and then plugging the power connector back in while still holding the button.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides solutions for common issues, such as the NVR not detecting the camera (checking cable connections, trying different channels or cables) and problems with night vision (re-aiming the camera to avoid bright lights or reflective surfaces).
  • Cable Management: When connecting network cables, users are instructed to hold the plug portion, not the cable itself, and to press down on the lock when unplugging to prevent damage. Strain on the cable connection should be avoided.
  • Environmental Protection: While robust, long-term exposure to direct sunlight (UV) and moisture can degrade performance. Sheltered outdoor installation is recommended, and waterproofing the cable connections is crucial for outdoor use.
