Overview

The device described in the manual is a Swan Steam Iron, model SI10010N.

Function Description

The Swan Steam Iron is designed for domestic ironing, providing both dry and steam ironing capabilities to remove creases from various fabrics. It features a spray function for moistening laundry and a steam shot function for tackling stubborn creases, even when held vertically for items like hung clothes and curtains. The iron incorporates an anti-drip function to prevent water leakage from the soleplate when ironing dense garments at lower temperatures.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: SI10010N
  • Input Voltage: 220-240V
  • Frequency: 50/60Hz
  • Power Consumption: 2600 Watts
  • Water Tank Capacity: 350ml (do not over-fill)
  • Soleplate: Ceramic Series
  • Compliance: Conforms to 2004/108/EC (EMC Directive), 2006/95EC (LVD Directive), and 2011/65-EU (RoHS Directive).

Usage Features

The iron is equipped with several user-friendly features:

  • Controls:
    • Spray button (1): Activates the spray function to moisten fabrics.
    • Steamshot button (2): Delivers a powerful burst of steam.
    • Thermostat (3): Allows adjustment of the soleplate temperature according to fabric type.
    • Filler cap (5): Covers the water tank opening.
    • Steam control (6): Adjusts the steam output or sets the iron to dry mode.
    • Self clean button (7): Used for descaling the iron.
  • Temperature Guide: The manual provides a clear guide for selecting appropriate temperatures based on fabric type:
    • * for Synthetic fibres/silk (no variable steam, no steam shot, spray allowed).
    • ** for Wool (variable steam allowed, steam shot allowed, spray allowed).
    • *** for Cotton/Linen (variable steam allowed, steam shot allowed, spray allowed).
    • A "Do not iron" symbol indicates fabrics unsuitable for ironing.
  • Water Usage: For best results and to prolong product life, especially in hard water areas, bottled or purified water is recommended. The water tank should not be overfilled to prevent leakage.
  • First Use: Before initial use, it's advised to remove any stickers or protective foil from the soleplate. The iron should be heated to maximum temperature and ironed over a damp cloth for several minutes to remove any manufacturing residues. A slight odor during first use is normal and will dissipate.
  • Operation Sequence:
    1. Open the water tank cover and fill with clean water, ensuring not to exceed the "Max" level.
    2. Close the filler cap securely.
    3. Connect the plug to a power outlet.
    4. Set the steam control to the dry (0) position and place the iron vertically.
    5. Turn the thermostat dial to the desired temperature setting based on the fabric. The indicator light will illuminate.
    6. Once the soleplate reaches the preset temperature, the indicator light will turn off.
    7. Adjust the steam control to the desired steam output or keep it in the dry position for dry ironing.
    8. Use the spray button to moisten laundry if needed, ensuring enough water in the tank.
    9. Utilize the steam shot function at maximum temperature for stubborn creases. This function can also be used vertically.
  • Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes not touching the hot soleplate during ironing.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the iron's longevity and performance:

  • After Ironing:
    1. Disconnect the power supply.
    2. Empty any remaining water from the tank.
    3. Reconnect the power supply briefly and disconnect after the indicator light goes off to dry the soleplate.
  • Cleaning:
    1. Allow the iron to cool down completely.
    2. Wipe flakes and other deposits from the soleplate with a damp cloth or a non-abrasive (liquid) cleaner.
    3. Clean the upper part of the iron with a damp cloth.
  • Storage: Always store the emptied iron horizontally on a stable surface, preferably with a cloth protecting the soleplate.
  • De-scaling:
    1. For hard water areas, regular descaling (every few weeks) is necessary.
    2. Prepare a descaling solution using one part lemon juice to ten parts water.
    3. Fill the iron with this solution.
    4. Switch on the iron and allow it to reach operating temperature.
    5. Press and hold the self-clean button until most of the solution has worked through the iron.
    6. Empty any remaining solution from the tank.
    7. Repeat the procedure with clean water to rinse.
