Directions for repair
Repair of the machine should only be carried out by trained service personnel with
knowledge of the safe use of workshop equipment, and trained to repair agricultural
machinery in a safe and responsible manner.
Do not work under the machine unless the lifting cylinders on the left and right hand
side are fitted with safety devices, see page 49. The tractor engine must be stopped,
the ignition key removed and the hand brake applied.

Main gearbox
Repair of the gearbox must only be carried out by competent persons with thorough
knowledge of such work. Gear and bearing back-lash must be within the stated values,
and the contact surfaces of the gears must be adjusted correctly. Gear back-lash must
be adjusted using shims at J, K, L and M.
The main gearbox for the models 4024 - 4028 - 4032 - 4036 has five drive shafts. The gearbox for
the models 4028 C - 4032 C - 4036 C has four drive shafts as the transmission at C is not
incorporated on the models 4028 C - 4032 C - 4036 C.The lower drawing shows the vertical drive
shaft used to power the cutterbar. Plug B is the oil drain plug.
Note: The gearbox for swivel hitch and wide-angle hitch have different gear wheel sets C
for the input shaft - see parts list. Models 4028 C - 4032 C - 4036 C cannot be
supplied with wide-angle hitch.
Never forget to re-fit the data plate of the gearbox after repair.
Use a crane or other lifting tackle if the gearbox must be lifted out of the machine, - the gearbox
weighs about 95 kg.
Note the following:
Checking of gear back-lash, bearing back-lash and the contact surfaces can only be measured on
a clean and oilfree gear.
Use a dial gauge fastened to the gear when checking bearing back-lash, - never hit the shaft ends,
as the bearing may be damaged.
Use a lever of 500 mm length fastened to the shaft when checking the gear back-lash. The stated
values on the drawing are valid with a 500 mm long arm.
Apply an indicator colour on 3 - 4 teeth of one gear to check contact surfaces. Fit the tooth wheel
and turn the shafts. Dismantle the tooth wheel again and check the contact surfaces.
Important, when the gearbox is being fitted on the machine:
Use LOCTITE 242 for locking of the 4 bolts that secures the gearbox on to the main frame.
