7. Equalisation
VLSSeriesloudspeakersrequirenoequalisationorcorrectiontoovercomesystemlimitations;equalisation
isnecessaryonlytocompensatefordifcultacousticenvironments.Over-equalisationcanreducesystem
headroomandintroducephasedistortion,resultingindegradedsound.Ifequalisationisrequired,itshould
beappliedgentlyandsmoothly.BecauseVLSSeriesloudspeakersarephasecoherentdesigns,excessive
equalizationusuallyprovesdetrimentaltotheoverallsoundquality.Whenoneloudspeakerisusedinclose
proximitytoanother,comblteringeffectscancreatecoverageproblems.(Comblteringcreatesanuneven

withproperloudspeakerplacement.
8. Mounting and flying
8.1 Asymmetrical pattern considerations
VLSSeriesloudspeakersaredesignedwithanasymmetricalverticaldispersionpattern,afeaturewhichallows
improvedperformancewithsimpliedmountinginmanyapplications.TheverticaldispersionoftheVLS7and
VLS15is+6/-22degreesfromacousticcenteraxis,whilethepatternoftheVLS30is+3/-11degreesfrom
acousticcenteraxis.Pleasebeawareofthisfeaturewhenplanningyourinstallation.Inmanysituationswhere
conventionalcolumnloudspeakerswouldrequiresubstantialdownwardtilt,aVLSSeriesloudspeakerwould
requirelesstiltorevenallowushmounting,thusprovidingasimplerinstallationwithimprovedvisualaesthetics.
