Specification

Overview

The TBB Power Energier Mobile Inverter Charger Combination is a versatile power solution designed for various on-board power applications such as RVs, utility vehicles, and marine environments. This device integrates an inverter and a charger into a single unit, offering a comprehensive power management system.

Function Description

The Energier Mobile unit serves as both a powerful inverter and a professional battery charger. As an inverter, it generates a pure sine wave AC power output, which is crucial for the correct function of sensitive equipment like computers, laser printers, and TVs. This pure sine wave output ensures that connected appliances operate smoothly, coolly, and efficiently, including heavy inductive loads such as refrigerators, coffee makers, microwaves, power tools, and air conditioners, thanks to its outstanding surge power capability and low-frequency transformer.

The device also functions as a sophisticated battery charger for lead-acid batteries, featuring a multi-stage charging algorithm (bulk-absorption-float-recycle). This microprocessor-controlled algorithm ensures quick and full charging, with a variable absorption charging timer that optimizes charging for batteries at different discharge states. Float charging and recycle charging programs are included to maintain battery health during long periods of connection and minimize aging when not in use. The Energier Mobile also supports universal LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) charging profiles and offers pre-defined profiles for TBB M and P series lithium batteries.

A notable feature is its power assist and power control function, allowing it to work seamlessly with limited AC sources like generators or a constrained grid. The Energier Mobile can automatically adjust its charging current to prevent overloading the grid or generator. In situations where temporary peak power is required, the unit can act as a supplementary source to the generator or grid.

Usage Features

The Energier Mobile is designed for user-friendly operation and monitoring. It features a front panel with LED indicators for various modes:

  • Invert: Illuminates when the unit is inverting.
  • AC In: Flashes when AC input (mains or generator) is detected.
  • Charge: Flashes when in float charging, illuminates when in bulk or absorption charging.
  • Warning: Flashes when a warning occurs.
  • Fault: Flashes when an error occurs.

A control panel with ON/OFF button, Power LED Indication, and a Mute & Unlock button for faults and alarms provides direct interaction.

For more advanced monitoring and configuration, the unit can be connected to a remote control and monitor (MCK) via an RS485 port. The MCK provides detailed information on load, battery status (kW, Hz, V, A), AC input, and solar input, allowing users to monitor and operate the unit from a convenient location.

Configuration of the inverter charger can be done through the TBB Link software, which requires a TBB Interface (RS485 to USB communication module) to connect the inverter to a computer. This software allows users to adjust various parameters such as Rate AC Voltage, Rate AC Frequency, Battery Type, Battery AH, Max Charge Current, Absorption Voltage, Float Voltage, Undervoltage Protect Recover, Undervoltage Warning, Undervoltage Protect, Deep Undervoltage Protect, and Power Assist Current.

The device also includes a dry contact input for remote on/off functionality, often connected to an ignition (IGN) source. Two programmable relay outputs (NO, C, NC) are available for external control. A slave charger output (S+) is provided for a starter battery.

Maintenance Features

The Energier Mobile Inverter Charger Combination is equipped with a comprehensive suite of hardware and software protection functions to ensure stable and reliable operation, minimizing the need for frequent maintenance. These protections include:

  • Overload Protection: Automatically restarts after 60 seconds. After three consecutive shutdowns, manual restart is required.
  • Over Temperature Protection: Automatically resumes normal operation once internal temperature returns to normal.
  • Short Circuit Protection: Automatically shuts down AC output and requires manual activation to restart.
  • Battery Over Temperature Protection: Continuously monitors battery temperature during charging, automatically reducing charging current or turning off the charger if the battery becomes severely heated.
  • Battery Low Voltage Protection: Automatically cuts off output based on user-set low voltage protection point to prevent permanent damage from over-discharge.

The unit also features a Battery Sample Cable (temperature and voltage sensor) that measures battery temperature and automatically adjusts charging voltages in real-time at a compensation rate of –4mV/C/cell, ensuring optimal charging for lead-acid batteries. If the cable is not present, the unit defaults to 25°C. This feature is particularly beneficial for sealed batteries and environments with significant temperature fluctuations.

For lithium batteries, the built-in BMS (Battery Management System) utilizes cell temperature and real-time SOC (State of Charge) to command the battery charger for optimum charging voltage and current. This synchronization prevents overheating or overcharging, especially at the end of charging, and ensures the lithium battery reaches its target cycle life. SOC value is used for protection instead of voltage, providing more accurate protection against permanent damage from prolonged discharge.

Installation guidelines emphasize placing the equipment in a dry, clean, cool, and well-ventilated location, away from fire, direct sunlight, rain, and flammable, explosive, or corrosive gases or liquids. It is also crucial to avoid installing it in environments with metal conductive dust. Only qualified and authorized maintenance personnel are permitted to open and repair the unit, and it must be turned off before any servicing. The DC fuse must be turned off before servicing.

The device is cooled by a forced fan, contributing to its operational stability. Regular checks before operation include verifying correct and steady installation, reasonable cable layout, reliable grounding, and proper connection of all cables. The battery breaker should be OFF before initial power-on steps.
