Overview

The NEMO series battery to battery charger, also known as a DC-DC charger, is designed to provide an efficient and reliable in-vehicle charging solution for auxiliary batteries. It draws power from an alternator to charge auxiliary batteries while driving, or from a solar panel when stationary. This charger is compatible with Euro 6 vehicles and features a stable output, even with variable voltage "smart alternators," ensuring a full charge for your battery in the shortest time without concerns about overcharging or undercharging, which can reduce battery lifespan.

Function Description:

The NEMO series charger protects your auxiliary battery by regulating voltage and controlling output current. It incorporates TBB's premium II multistage charging algorithm, suitable for various battery chemistries, including LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate), AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat), GEL, and WET (Flooded Lead-Acid). The charger features built-in automatic temperature and voltage compensated battery charging.

For auxiliary batteries, it supports low voltage detection (under 2V) before charging begins and offers an LFP wake-up function with continuous output. The device is compatible with Euro 6 engines, which often use variable voltage smart alternators. A battery protection function is included to prevent deep-discharge of the starter battery.

Dual input models (DDX/IDDX series) are available with a built-in MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) solar charge controller, allowing for solar charging. Models with 12Vdc input and 24Vdc output are also offered. The charger is compact, waterproof with an IP63 rating, and fanless, making installation convenient. Multiple units can be connected in parallel to increase the total output current. When the auxiliary battery is full, the charger provides maintenance solar charge to the starter battery. It is suitable for supporting loads up to its maximum output rating while on the move. The NEMO series has E-Mark approval and comes with a 2-year warranty.

Usage Features:

The NEMO series offers various models (DX, DDX, IDX, IDDX) with different functionalities. The DX and DDX models have standard cable configurations, while IDX and IDDX models are designed for OEM applications and offer more adjustable settings via PC software (RS485 communication).

  • Battery Type Setting: The charger allows users to select the battery type (AGM, GEL, LFP, WET) using a dip switch, which adjusts the absorption and floating charging voltages accordingly.
  • Wiring Recommendation: Detailed tables are provided for recommended cable sizes (in mm² or AWG) and fuse ratings for both input and output connections, based on cable length and model type. It is recommended to install a fuse on the input and output closest to the battery.
  • Installation: The charger should be installed in a clean, cool location with good ventilation, free from excessive heat and vibration. Although the electronics are sealed, it is not designed for locations where water might short between terminals. M5 screws are used to secure the charger.
  • Connection Polarity: Users are warned to ensure correct polarity during connection to prevent damage and voiding the warranty.
  • IGN Wire Connection: For Euro 6 vehicles with variable voltage "smart alternators," connecting the IGN (ignition) wire is crucial for proper operation.
  • Sensor Cable: A built-in battery sensor detects voltage and temperature of the auxiliary battery to compensate the charging voltage. It must be connected to the positive terminal of the auxiliary battery.
  • RS485 Communication (IDX and IDDX models): These models can connect to a PC monitor or controller via an RS485 cable to display working information. The RS485 protocol can be obtained from the sales team.
  • LED Indicators: The front panel features LED indicators (Power, PV, ALT, CHG, Fault) that show the charger's normal working status (e.g., absorption stage, floating stage, PV charging, alternator charging) and abnormal conditions (e.g., alternator input over voltage, internal over temperature, battery over temperature, battery disconnected or low voltage, output overvoltage, input low voltage, PV input over voltage).

Maintenance Features:

  • Safety Precaution: Before servicing, the NEMO charger MUST be isolated. Only qualified and authorized personnel should open and repair the unit due to dangerous voltages and high temperatures inside.
  • Cable Integrity: To avoid fire, electric shock, and poor performance, all cables must meet wiring recommendations, and good electrical connections are essential. Smaller diameter, broken, or poor-quality cables should not be used.
  • Fuse Protection: It is always recommended to suitably fuse the input and output of the Nemo.
  • Battery Handling: Users are advised to use fresh water to clean skin, clothing, or eyes if battery acid contact occurs and to consult a doctor. Smoking, sparks, or flames near a battery are prohibited due to flammable gas generation during charging. Metal tools or objects should not be placed on the battery to prevent sparks and short circuits. All personal metal items (rings, bracelets, necklaces, watches) should be removed when working with batteries to avoid severe burns from short-circuit currents.
  • Location: Avoid placing the unit directly above batteries, as battery gases can corrode and damage the charger. Do not place the battery over the charger.
