Checking
the
phase
If
the polarities(+/
-)
of
the
left and right speakers do
not
match, they
will
be
o
ut
of
phase and good stereo
playback
sound will
not
be possible.
To
c
he
ck
the
phase,
play
a
mo
no
audio recording that
has
strong
bass
frequen
cies
through one speaker and then both
speakers.
If
the
bass
frequen
ci
es
sound
is w
ea
ker with
both
speakers,
they
are
probably
out
of
pha
se.
If
th
ey
are in phase,
l
ow
-frequency
sound should
be
ri
ch abundant and the
stereo image
should be
placed
in
the
middle
between the
left
and ri
ght
speakers.
If
they
are
out
of
phase,
low
frequencies
will be missing and the
stereo image
will
be
unclear. In
this
case,
check the
polarities
(+/
-)
ofthe
connections between the
speakers
and the
amplifier.
By
reversing
th
e
polarity
for
one
speaker,
the
phase
ca
n
be
corrected.
