12V installation details.
‘Smart’ charging vehicles
Euro5 / Euro6 compliant or hybrid vehicles.
12V installation details.
Non ‘smart’ charging
/ traditional vehicles.
Non voltage sensing
Smart charging maybe referred to as ‘battery
management system’, ‘smart alternator’ or other similar
terms.
In these systems, when driving the vehicle alternator is
periodically disconnected from the battery to increase
economy.
Your Teal sink will have 3 wires connected.
• 12V + Red. To vehicle battery or auxiliary battery.
• 0V - Black. To vehicle battery negative.
• White signal wire (W.W.). When the W.W. receives a
positive signal, the sink will switch on.
The most common connection for the W.W. is at the
ignition fuse, though alternative connection points may
be used. Do not connect the W.W. to other vehicle
systems that might have alternate power e.g. alarms as
the Teal sink may not switch o.
The unit will switch o (regardless of W.W. voltage) when
less than 11.9 volts are detected, thus preserving the
battery’s integrity.
Consult the vehicle handbook as to how to connect the
Red/Black wires to the battery as direct connection to the
battery terminals can defeat the ‘battery management
system’ – if tted.
Voltage sensing
In these systems the alternator will charge the battery
whenever the engine is running.
Your Teal sink will have 2 wires connected.
• 12V + Red. To vehicle battery or auxiliary battery.
• 0V - Black. To vehicle battery negative.
The White signal wire is unused.
The unit will switch on when it detects a voltage above
13.8 volts and switch o below 12.8 volts.
Consult the vehicle handbook as to how to connect the
Red/Black wires to the battery as direct connection to
the battery terminals can defeat the ‘battery
management system’ – if tted.
