I. General Safety Precautions

Never operate with unguarded shafts or flywheels. Keep hands, hair, and clothing away from moving parts.

E. Do Not Modify Engine

Do not modify the engine, especially the governor setting, to avoid dangerous speeds and voiding the warranty.

F. Avoid Burns and Fire from Hot Surfaces

Engine parts become extremely hot. Stay away from hot areas and keep flammable materials away from the engine.

G. Avoid Accidental Starts

Prevent accidental starting by disconnecting the spark plug wire and turning off switches before working.

H. Use Hearing Protection

Engine noise can cause hearing damage. Always wear hearing protection when operating the engine.

II. How to Get Service

A. Engine Identification Decal

Locate the engine identification decal for model number, specification, and date of manufacture for future reference.

B. Technician's Handbook

A Technician's Handbook is available for those with engine knowledge wishing to perform repairs and service.

III. Oil and Fuel Specifications

A. Oil

Use clean, high-quality detergent oil. Ensure the oil sump capacity is correct for proper engine operation.

B. Fuel

Use unleaded regular, premium, or reformulated automotive fuel. Do not use leaded fuel or fuel with high alcohol content.

IV. Before Starting Your Engine

A. Checking Oil Level

Check oil level before each use and every 5 operating hours. Keep level between 'FULL' and 'ADD' marks on dipstick.

C. Filling Fuel Tank

An adult should fuel the engine outdoors in a well-ventilated area. Avoid spills and overfilling the fuel tank.

B. Filling Oil Sump

Follow instructions for oil fill cap or oil fill plug to ensure correct oil level, avoiding spills.

Check oil level before each use. Change oil after first 2 hours and every 25 hours thereafter.

Remove grass clippings, dirt, and debris from levers, cooling fins, air intake screen, and guards before each use.

C. Spark Plug

Check spark plug yearly or every 100 hours. Replace if cracked, pitted, burned, or fouled. Set gap to 0.030 in.

D. Cleaning/Replacing Air Cleaner

Clean or replace the air cleaner to prevent premature engine wear. Service foam pre-filters and paper filters.

EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM WARRANTY

A. APPLICABILITY

This warranty applies to 1995 and later model year California small off-road engines, continuing for 24 months.

B. GENERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY COVERAGE

Tecumseh Power warrants that engines conform to regulations and are free from defects in materials and workmanship.

C. THE ECS WARRANTY ONLY PERTAINS TO EMISSION-RELATED PARTS ON YOUR ENGINE AS FOLLOWS:

Details warranty coverage for emission-related parts, including those scheduled for maintenance or inspection.
