Overview

This document describes the Tefal Express Compact Easy Control steam generator iron, designed for indoor domestic household use. It offers a combination of smart technology, ease of use, and efficient maintenance features.

Function Description

The Tefal Express Compact Easy Control is a steam generator iron that provides powerful steam for efficient ironing. It features a base unit with a water tank and boiler, and an iron with a soleplate and steam control. The appliance is designed to make ironing all types of ironable fabrics without risk, thanks to its electronic regulation system that optimizes temperature and steam combination.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Water Tank Capacity: 1.6 litres, allowing for extended ironing sessions without frequent refilling.
  • Soleplate: Ultra Gliss Diffusion soleplate, designed for smooth gliding and even steam distribution.
  • Safety Systems:
    • Pressure release valve to prevent excessive pressure, releasing excess steam in case of malfunction.
    • Thermal fuse to prevent overheating.
    • Automatic shut-off system: The appliance goes into standby after approximately 8 minutes of non-use and switches off completely after 30 minutes of non-use for enhanced safety and energy saving.
  • Power: Operates on 220-240V alternating current.
  • Water Type: Designed to function with untreated tap water. For very hard water, a mix of 50% untreated tap water and 50% distilled water is recommended. Rainwater or water containing additives (starch, fragrance, or water from domestic appliances) should not be used.

Usage Features

Locking System: The steam generator is equipped with a "Lock-System" hoop (8) to secure the iron onto the base unit (13) for easy transport and storage.

  • Locking (fig.1): Place the iron on the iron rest (5) and raise the retaining hoop over the iron until it locks into place with an audible click.
  • Unlocking (fig.2): Release the hoop to unlock the iron.
  • Transport (fig.3): Carry the steam generator by the iron's handle when locked.

Control Panel (17): The control panel features several indicators and buttons for intuitive operation:

  • "ON-OFF" button with light (d): Powers the appliance on/off and indicates heating status (flashing during warm-up, steady when ready).
  • "Water tank empty" light (b): Flashes red when the water tank (10) is empty.
  • "Anti-calc" light (a): Flashes orange when maintenance is required for the anti-calc collector.
  • "OK" button (c): Used to acknowledge warnings (e.g., after refilling the water tank or rinsing the anti-calc collector) and to reactivate the appliance from standby.
  • "ECO MIN" button with light (e): Activates the ECO mode for ironing delicate fabrics at the lowest temperature and steam flow, reducing energy consumption. Pressing it again exits this mode.

Steam Ironing:

  • Steam Control (2): Press the steam control button under the iron handle to generate steam (fig.12). Releasing the button stops the steam.
  • Steam Boost Button (1): Located on the top of the iron, this button activates an automatic sequential steam function for effortless use (fig.14).
  • Vertical Steam Ironing (fig.13): Hold the iron in a vertical position, slightly tilted forwards, and repeatedly press the steam control button to remove creases from hanging garments.
  • Dry Ironing: Do not press the steam control button for dry ironing.

Refilling the Water Tank During Use: When the "Water tank empty" light (b) flashes (fig.9), open the water tank filler cover (9) and pour untreated tap water up to the "Max" mark (fig.4). Close the cover and press the "OK" button (c) to resume ironing.

Smart Technology Easy Control: This electronic regulation system automatically sets the optimum temperature and steam combination for all ironable fabrics, eliminating the need for manual sorting.

  • Optimum Setting (ON/OFF): Suitable for all ironable fabrics without risk of burning (e.g., cotton, wool, silk, polyester, cashmere, viscose, synthetic/cotton mixes, linen, mixed fibres).
  • ECO/Min Setting (ECO MIN button): Ideal for delicate fabrics requiring the lowest temperature and steam flow (e.g., acetate, elastane, polyamide, acrylic, synthetic mixes). Note: Do not use steam for acrylic fabrics.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning the Steam Generator:

  • General Cleaning: Do not use cleaning or descaling products on the soleplate or base unit. Never immerse the iron or base unit in water.
  • Soleplate Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth on the warm soleplate to avoid damaging the coating. Always stand the iron upright or on the iron rest to protect the coating.
  • Plastic Parts: Clean plastic parts with a slightly damp soft cloth.
  • Warning: Avoid abrasive cleaning products or metal pads, as they can damage the soleplate coating (fig.15).

Easy Descaling with Anti-Calc Collector: The appliance is equipped with a built-in "Anti-calc" collector (15) to automatically remove scale and extend the life of the steam generator.

  • Indicator: The orange "Anti-calc" light (a) on the control panel flashes when the collector needs rinsing (fig.11).
  • Procedure (fig.16-22):
    1. Ensure the steam generator is completely cold and unplugged for at least 2 hours.
    2. Unscrew the "Anti-calc" collector cap (14) and fully unscrew the collector (fig.16).
    3. Pull out the collector from the base unit (fig.17); it will contain accumulated scale (fig.18).
    4. Rinse the collector under running water to remove scale (fig.19). For stubborn scale, soak the rod in white vinegar or lemon juice for a few hours.
    5. Place the collector back in its housing and screw it in completely to ensure water tightness, but do not overtighten (fig.20-21).
    6. Fit the collector cover back in place (fig.22).
    7. After reassembly, press the "OK" button (c) until the orange "Anti-calc" light goes out (fig.10).
  • Full Tank Rinse: In addition to regular maintenance, a complete tank rinse is advisable every 6 months or after approximately 25 uses. This involves tilting the cold, unplugged steam generator over a sink, filling the boiler with 1/4 litre of tap water, shaking gently, and then emptying it completely.
