Overview

This document describes the Tefal IS8300 garment steamer, a floor-standing appliance designed for domestic and indoor use to remove creases from garments using steam.

Function Description:

The IS8300 garment steamer is designed to provide efficient and easy garment care. It produces steam to smooth out wrinkles and refresh fabrics. The appliance features variable steam settings, allowing users to adjust steam output according to the fabric type, from delicate to thick materials. It is equipped with an "auto-off" system that puts the appliance on standby if the water tank is empty for more than 10 minutes, indicated by a slowly flashing "Auto off" indicator. To reactivate, the user simply needs to refill the water tank and select the desired steam level. The steamer is designed for vertical steaming, moving the steam head up and down. It should never be used in a horizontal position or tilted backward, as this may result in hot water discharge.

Important Technical Specifications:

The appliance operates on AC current, and users should ensure their mains supply voltage matches the appliance data plate. It includes a removable water tank (14) for easy filling. The telescopic pole (8) allows for height adjustment, and the integrated hanger (2) provides a convenient way to hang garments during steaming. The control panel (15) features indicators for steam readiness (34), "Anti calc" (32), and an empty tank (33). Depending on the model, variable steam settings (31) can be adjusted via a button on the control panel (35) or on the steam handle, with steam level indicators (36) showing the selected intensity.

Usage Features:

The garment steamer is assembled by first securing the stability legs (16), then attaching the telescopic pole (8) to the base (22) using the pole fastening screw (17). The integrated hanger (2) is then fixed to the top of the pole. The steam head (1) is placed on the hanger. To use, the water tank (14) is removed, filled with tap water (or a 50/50 mix of tap and distilled water for hard water areas), and placed back on the appliance. The appliance is plugged in (11) and switched on using the ON/OFF switch (19). The "steam ready" indicator (34) will flash for approximately 45 seconds before becoming steady, indicating the appliance is ready. Steam production begins after about 30 seconds. Garments are hung on the integrated hanger (2) or a separate hanger. For trousers, optional trouser clips (3) or a Press & Steam vertical support (23) can be used. Steaming should begin at the top of the garment, moving downwards, with the steam head held in a vertical position. The appliance offers various accessories (depending on model) to enhance the steaming experience:

  • Press & Steam vertical support (23): This system provides vertical support to help remove creases more easily and efficiently. It attaches to the integrated hanger.
  • Fabric brush (28): Attaches to the steam head to open fabric weaves for better steam penetration. It should be gently pressed into the fabric following the grain.
  • Lint pad (29): A separate accessory used independently from the steam head to remove hair, lint, and animal fur for a professional finish.
  • Crease attachment (30): Slides into the lower part of the steam head to create crisp creases. The garment is placed between the attachment and the steam head, and the attachment is moved downwards.
  • Glove (27): Protects the free hand from steam during use.

After use, the appliance should be switched off (19) and unplugged (11). The steam head (1) should be hung in an upright position on its hook (4). The water tank (14) should be emptied and rinsed to flush out scale particles. The electrical cord (11) should be loosely wound and secured with the Velcro™ strip (not explicitly numbered but implied by instructions) around the cord hook (10) on the pole. For transport, the stability legs (16) are pushed back into the base (22), and the appliance can be lifted by the telescopic pole (8) or transport handle (12).

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

  • Cleaning: The main unit and the Press & Steam fabric (if applicable) should be cleaned with a damp cloth or non-abrasive sponge. Harsh cleaning products like soap or detergents should not be used.
  • Easy descaling: The appliance should be descaled at least once a year or after 30 hours of use, depending on usage frequency. Models with an "Anti calc" indicator (32) will flash an orange light when descaling is needed. The descaling process involves ensuring the appliance is completely cool (minimum 2 hours), separating the appliance from the base using the base unlocking button (18), removing the steam head (1) and electrical cord (11), taking out the water tank (14), and then filling the boiler directly with ½ liter of fresh water through the water inlet. The "Anti calc" cap (21) is unscrewed, and the appliance is tilted and gently moved to help scale particles flow out with the water. This process is repeated as needed. After descaling, for models with the indicator, the "Anti calc" button (not explicitly numbered but implied by instructions) on the control panel should be pressed for 5 seconds to turn off the indicator. It is crucial not to fill the boiler through the steam head holes or the "Anti calc" draining outlet, and never immerse the steam head in water.
