My iFace just shutdown on its own
The iFace won’t switch on?
Drivers must be set up in
NextGen first before creating a
“New Driver”. Please contact your
inline/depot manager and
request that a driver account be
created for you in NextGen.
Ensure the screen is connected to the charger and that a
lightning bolt battery icon appears in the corner of the screen.
Hold the power button to switch the iFace on. If this doesn’t
wake the device, it's likely that there is no charge in the battery.
Please try charging the device with a 240v AC Charger (not
supplied)
If your device is still not working, please notify your inline/depot
manager of the issue and which vehicle the device is from.
When the vehicle's ignition is off, the iFace will automatically
shutdown to conserve the internal battery for smooth start up
the next time the vehicle is switched on.
To power the iFace back on, either switch the vehicle's ignition
back on, or press and hold the power button for 3 seconds.
Please note it might be necessary to perform a hard reboot
(hold power button for 10 seconds)
TROUBLESHOOTING
I can't log into Sentinel?
Check that the iFace has successfully paired with the IVU by
looking for two Bluetooth symbols (one in each corner).
If only one Bluetooth symbol appears, hold the power button
down for 10 seconds to reboot the iFace. Whilst rebooting turn
the vehicle ignition off, then on.
Please Note: iFaces that contain a Sim card do not require
Bluetooth. Position of Bluetooth symbols may differ between

Overview

The Teletrac Navman iFace is a robust in-vehicle device designed to streamline various operational tasks for drivers, including fatigue management, mass declarations, pre-trip checklists, and document access. It serves as a central hub for compliance and communication within a commercial vehicle.

Function Description:

The iFace integrates several key functions to support drivers and fleet operations:

  • Driver Logon: Allows drivers to log in, create new driver profiles (after initial setup in NextGen), and manage their driving status. This is crucial for tracking driver hours and compliance.
  • Sentinel (Fatigue Management): This application helps drivers comply with fatigue laws by tracking work and rest times. It displays a 'Rule Summary' indicating when the next rest break is required and allows drivers to record various fatigue events. It's important to note that drivers are still legally required to fill out paper work diaries.
  • IAP (Intelligent Access Program) Declaration: This feature enables drivers to declare vehicle mass, configuration changes, and load status. Declarations are required each time a vehicle is loaded or unloaded, when its configuration changes, and at least once every 24 hours, regardless of whether it's operating under HML, CML, or General Mass. Drivers must specify vehicle type, number of axles, and total mass in tonnes.
  • Mass Manager: Complementing the IAP Declaration, the Mass Manager allows drivers to input and save mass declarations. It supports various units of measure (e.g., Tonnes) and accommodates long vehicle combinations, where drivers can swipe to navigate through different axle groups.
  • Pre-Trip Checklist: This application guides drivers through a comprehensive checklist before starting a trip, ensuring vehicle safety and compliance. Drivers must answer all questions, and a failed answer may require additional information.
  • Easydocs: Provides access to important documents stored in categorized folders. Drivers can view documents directly on the iFace, zoom in/out, and navigate freely. It's important to note that documents cannot be uploaded, edited, or deleted directly from the iFace; these actions must be performed via NextGen.
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: The device includes built-in guidance for common issues like login problems, device not switching on, or unexpected shutdowns. It also provides instructions for basic maintenance actions like rebooting.

Usage Features:

  • User Interface: The iFace features a touchscreen interface for easy navigation through its various applications.
  • Physical Buttons: A push button allows for easy removal of the iFace from its cradle.
  • Cradle Security: The device can be secured to the cradle using M3 screws, ensuring it remains in place during transit.
  • Power Management: The iFace automatically shuts down when the vehicle's ignition is off to conserve internal battery. It can be powered back on by switching the ignition on or by pressing and holding the power button for 3 seconds.
  • Reboot Functionality: For troubleshooting, a soft reboot can be performed by holding the power button for 10 seconds.
  • Connectivity Indicators: The home screen displays indicators for battery level, Bluetooth status (two symbols for successful pairing with IVU), 3G connectivity, and GPS lock.
  • Aeroplane Mode: The device supports an aeroplane mode, which can be toggled on/off.
  • Driver Profile Management: Drivers can create new profiles by entering their driver's license number and state, then selecting 'OK'.
  • Document Viewing: Documents can be viewed in full screen, with pinch-to-zoom and swipe navigation.

Important Technical Specifications (Inferred):

  • Mounting: Designed for in-vehicle cradle mounting.
  • Power Input: Charges via the vehicle's power supply when in the cradle. Can also be charged with a 240V AC charger (not supplied).
  • Connectivity: Supports Bluetooth for pairing with the IVU (In-Vehicle Unit) and 3G for data transmission. Some models may not require Bluetooth if they contain a SIM card.
  • Internal Battery: Features an internal battery for operation when disconnected from vehicle power.
  • Security: M3 screws for securing the device in its cradle.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides clear steps for common issues, such as:
    • Login Issues: Check Bluetooth pairing (two symbols). If only one symbol appears, a 10-second power button hold reboot is recommended, along with cycling vehicle ignition. Note that SIM card models may not require Bluetooth.
    • Device Not Switching On: Ensure the device is connected to a charger (lightning bolt icon) and hold the power button. If still unresponsive, try a 240V AC charger. If issues persist, notify management.
    • Unexpected Shutdowns: This is normal when vehicle ignition is off to conserve battery. To restart, turn ignition on or hold the power button for 3 seconds. A hard reboot (10-second power button hold) might be necessary.
    • Driver Creation Issues: Drivers must be set up in NextGen first. Contact your manager to request account creation.
  • Reporting Issues: Drivers are instructed to notify their inline/depot manager for persistent issues or problems with driver account creation.
  • Software Updates: While not explicitly detailed as a driver function, the reliance on NextGen for document management and driver setup implies a centralized system for software updates and configuration.
