the touchscreen to control features and
customize Model S to suit your
preferences. The Controls screen appears
over the map. Touch an option on the
Controls screen to display the various
settings and options associated with the
chosen option. Swipe to close.
When an information icon displays beside
a specific setting, touch it to display a
popup that provides helpful details about
the associated setting.
NOTE: Many vehicle controls, settings, and preferences
(such as climate, media, and navigation) can be adjusted
hands-free using voice commands (see Voice
Commands on page 140).

from this list, its associated settings display on the
right side of the screen.

settings display here, and are described next.
Pedals & Steering
Acceleration: Adjust the amount of acceleration. (See
Acceleration Modes on page 65).
Steering Mode
: Adjust the amount of eort required to
turn the steering wheel (see Adjusting Steering Eort on
page 41).
Regenerative Braking: When you release the accelerator
when driving, regenerative braking slows Model S and
feeds any surplus energy back to the Battery. If set to
LOW, Model S does not slow down as quickly, but also
feeds less energy back to the Battery (see Regenerative
Braking on page 59).
NOTE: Regardless of the setting selected, the energy
gained by regenerative braking is reduced if the Battery
is full, or is extremely cold or hot (in which case, surplus
energy is used to heat or cool it).
NOTE: The regenerative braking setting is not available
on all vehicles.
Stopping Mode: Choose how you want Model S to
behave once regenerative braking has reduced the
driving speed to a very low speed, a drive mode is still
engaged, and both the accelerator and brake pedals are
released. You can adjust this setting only when
Model S
is in Park.
Slip Start: Turn on to allow wheels to spin (see Traction
Control on page 61).
Range Mode (if equipped): If on, Model S conserves
energy by automatically limiting the amount of power
that the climate control system uses to maintain the
temperature of the cabin area and limits the amount of
energy being used to heat or cool the Battery. In
addition, Range Mode turns
o signature lights (only in
market regions where daytime running lights are not
required).
Suspension
Adjust the settings associated with the air suspension
system. You can adjust the Ride Height (helpful for
increasing ground clearance on steep driveways, etc.)
and you can optimize ride and handling by adjusting
settings for
Adaptive Suspension Damping. See Air
Suspension on page 138.
Charging
View charging status and adjust settings related to
charging Model S (see Charging Instructions on page
157).
Autopilot
NOTE: Depending on market region, vehicle
configuration, options purchased, and software version,
your vehicle may not be equipped with all Autopilot
features described below.
Customize how some of the Autopilot features operate
to provide a safer and more convenient driving
experience. See
About Autopilot on page 74 for an
overview of Autopilot components and features.
