CAUTION: Do not use the coupling nut t o clench t he olive to the fluid tubing. Use only
specified clenching tools to do the clenching operati on. Also, do not torque
the c ouplings too much during t he repair or r eplacement procedure. If the
couplings leak, install new seals as necessary.
CAUTION: Clench the olive to the t ubing without a sealing ring in position. If you
clench t he olive with a sea ling ring i n position, you will prevent a correct
clench and the sealing ring will be unserviceable.
(i) Put the en d o f th e nylon tubing into the correc tly -size d clenching tool as far as it will go.
(j) Make sure that th e outer end of the olive i s in the correct position in the bore of the nut.
(k) Turn the nut onto the clenching tool unt il it is finger tight plus 315° (five and one qu arter
flats).
1
Make sure t hat the nylon tubing stays bottomed out in the clenching tool until t he
clenching operation is completed.
2
Make sure that the mandrel is fully engaged in the tool.
NOTE: Clenching t ools for 3/16-inc h and 5/16-inch outside diameter tubing have
mandrels to hold the ins ide of the t ubing.
3
The tubing, olive, and mandrel c an turn during the clenching operation, and that
is permi tted.
(l) Unscrew the n ut and remo ve t he olive and the tubing from the c lenching tool.
NOTE: It may be neces s ary to remove the mandrel fro m the clenching tool to rem ov e
the tubing.
(m) Do an inspection of th e installed olive to see that i t is correct ly swaged.
CAUTION: Do not use the s eals again after you loosen or disconnect a tube co upling.
Replace the 3/ 16-inch and 5/16-inch sealing ring and/ or 1/2-inch O-ring,
as appli ca ble, when y ou as s emble a tube coup ling. Examine t he seal for
damage and make s ure that it is in the c orrec t position. This will help to
prevent fluid leakage f r om the c oupling.
(n) Put a sealing ring of the correc t dimens ion over the end of the tubing.
(o) Put the t ubing into th e coupling body and move the sealing ring into the rec es s at the
end o f the coupling body.
(p) Push the tubing toward the c oupling body to make t he olive hold the se aling ring in
position.
(q) Engage and finger tighten the nut.
(r) Tighten the nut unt il the torque starts to increase qui ckly (to approximately 180° from
finger tight).
(s) Use s afety wire t o safet y nuts only where it is s pec ified in the instruct ions. If not spec ified
in the instructions, safety wire is not necessar y on t he TK S fittings.
(9) (Refer to Figure 7.) When tubing repair or replacement is necess ary , the olive must alw ay s
be clenched (swaged) to the tubing as a s eparate operat ion. Use approved clenching tools
before you as semble th e coupling.
(10) (Refer to Figure 7.) Assemble the ny lon tubing and t he couplings in accordance with approved
maintenance practices.
