CAUTION: Do not do damage to th e ice protecti on system with solvents or paints. Most
solvents and all pa ints c an cause damage to the plastic mem brane in the porous
panels. Use only the mate rials from the l ist below whe n you work on or near
the porous panels. Nev er use M EK, ac eton e, or lacquer thinner. A lway s use
masking material when you use paint or s olvent s that are not on the list below
when you work on or near the porous panels.
(6) The mat erial s that f ollo w are approved to c lean the porous pan els. Use them with a brush or a
lint-free cloth:
Water with soaps or detergents
Aviation gas oline
Isopro py l alcohol
Industrial m ethylated spirit
Ice-protection fluids that are approv ed for use on the airplane
Aviation t urbine fuel
Ethyl alcohol.
(7) Always use P840294 Tape or e quivalent low-residue masking material to protect the porous
panels from unapprov ed materia ls.
(8) (Refer to Figure 7.) Use these ins tructions when you do the assem bly and the installation of
the tubing and t he line s:
CAUTION: Do not do damage to t he nylon tubing in the ice prot ec tion system. T here
must be no tension or strain on the ny lon tubing, as thes e forces when
applied to the nylon tubing can c aus e damage.
(a) Cut and install the nylon tubi ng in lengths that take into consideration the effects of
tension and strain.
(b) Whe n y ou c ut the nylon tubing, add no less than 3% (1 inch for e ac h 3 feet) to the
necessary length for thermal s hrinkage a nd airframe fle xu re.
(c) Do not use c omponents of dissimila r m et als unless the ins tructions specify component s
that hav e dissimilar metals.
(d) Use only the specified nylon tubing, c oupling bodies, olives, rubber sealing rings, and
nuts in accordance with t hese instructions to make comp re ssi on fitting connect ions.
(e) In a warm water (temperature of the wat er is not to be more than 140 degrees) and
detergent solution, clean all tubing and fittings completely and then dry them with clean
air before you assemble t he lines.
(f) Use only the spec ified c lenching tool s in accordance with t hes e instructions to mak e
compres sion t ting c onnections.
(g) When you assemb le the line , put t he c orrec t ly siz ed nut on the tubing in the correct
position. (Refer to the M odel 208 Maintenance Manual, Chapter 30, TKS Anti-Ice Fluid
Distribution System - M aintenance P rac t ices , Figure 204. )
(h) Put the oli ve on t he tub ing with the bev el end of the olive towa rd the end of the tubing.
