Why is the return air temperature not within the desired range on my Thermo King Air Conditioner?
    • S
      Susan ScottAug 10, 2025
If the return air temperature reading on your Thermo King Air Conditioner is not within the desired range, several factors could be the cause. First, the unit may not have had enough time to cool down. Check the load log history for above-temperature records and ensure the cargo compartment was properly pre-cooled. Also, the unit may have a low refrigerant charge; check the receiver tank sight glass. If no liquid is visible, a technician should add refrigerant or repair the system. The unit may also be in defrost or have just completed a defrost cycle; monitor the temperature after the cycle. Finally, the evaporator could be plugged with frost; initiate a manual defrost cycle.

      Alexander SmithAug 18, 2025
If you notice improper air circulation in the cargo compartment of your Thermo King Air Conditioner, inspect the unit and cargo compartment to ensure the evaporator fan(s) are working correctly. Poor air circulation can result from improper cargo loading, shifting cargo, or fan belt slippage. Make corrections as needed and continue monitoring the return air temperature.
