Woofer
The 8-inch woofer uses a very low distortion short
coil/long gap motor system, damped by a 2.5 pound
magnet. The rigid aluminum diaphragm eliminates
resonance coloration,
a special copper pole
sleeve reduces
inductance distortion,
and a heavy copper
ring maintains an ultra-
stable magnetic field.
In combination with
the bass radiator, the
woofer produces
exceptionally clean
bass down to 35Hz.
Tweeter/Midrange Driver
The CS2.3’s most innovative design feature is a
coaxial tweeter/midrange driver where the two
drivers share the
same
voice
coil. The drivers incorporate a
mechanical crossover to direct
the correct frequencies to each
diaphragm, eliminating the
need for the high frequency
section of the electrical
network. The coaxial mounting
results in improved imaging
and clarity, regardless of
listener postion.
Electrical crossover
The CS2.3 electrical crossover provides completely
phase accurate transitions between drivers to
preserve the
recording’s spatial
information. The
network utilizes
polypropylene and
custom-made
polystyrene capacitors,
and low-oxygen
copper, air-core
inductors for very low
distortion.

The CS2.3 tweeter/midrange

The mechanical crossover is
implemented by the coupling

diaphragms.
The Thiel CS2.3 is a superb loudspeaker, and an eloquent
testimonial to Jim Thiel’s design expertise and his
company’s manufacturing skills…I recommend it highly.
