Overview

This document is a Use & Care Manual for THOR Kitchen TRHP Professional Range Hoods, specifically covering models TRH48P, TRH36P, and TRH30P. The manual provides essential information for the installation, operation, and maintenance of these range hoods, emphasizing safety and optimal performance.

Function Description:

The THOR Kitchen TRHP Professional Range Hoods are designed for residential kitchen ventilation, primarily to eliminate kitchen fumes. They can be configured for either ducted (external air exhaust) or ductless (internal air recirculation) installation. In ducted mode, the hood expels cooking fumes and odors outside the home through a metal ductwork system. In recirculation mode, the air is filtered through charcoal filters (purchased separately) and then recirculated back into the kitchen. The hood features multiple fan speeds (low, medium, high) to adjust ventilation intensity and integrated LED lighting to illuminate the cooking surface.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models Covered: TRH48P, TRH36P, TRH30P
  • Installation Type: Ducted or Ductless (recirculation)
  • Ductless Requirement: Accessory charcoal filters must be purchased separately for ductless installation.
  • Minimum Distance to Cooktop:
    • Gas Cooktop: 30 inches
    • Electric Cooktop: 25 inches
    • Note: If the gas cooktop's installation instructions specify a greater distance, that must be followed.
  • Electrical Connection: Must be properly grounded. The appliance is equipped with a cord having a grounding wire and plug.
  • Ductwork (Ducted Mode): Metal ductwork only. Recommended duct size is 7 inches round.
  • Lighting: Two DC12V 2.0W LED bulbs.
  • Power Supply: Voltage must correspond to the rating plate/label inside the hood.
  • Weight: Considered excessive, requiring two or more people for installation or movement.

Usage Features:

  • Control Switch: A simple control panel with buttons for:
    • Light on/off
    • Low speed setting (1)
    • Medium speed setting (2)
    • High speed setting (3)
    • Hood on/off
  • Ventilation Modes: Users can choose between ducted exhaust for direct outdoor venting or recirculation mode with charcoal filters for indoor air filtration.
  • Adjustable Fan Speeds: Three fan speeds allow users to select the appropriate ventilation level for different cooking activities, from light simmering to high-heat cooking and flambéing.
  • Integrated Lighting: Provides illumination for the cooking area, enhancing visibility and safety.

Maintenance Features:

  • Grease Filters:
    • Cleaning: Should be cleaned frequently (every two months or more often with heavy use) using a warm detergent solution. They are washable.
    • Removal: Filters are removed by pushing down a latch, tilting the filter downward, and pulling it out.
    • Installation: Align rear filter tabs with slots, push down the latch, push the filter into position, and release to ensure secure engagement.
    • Replacement: Replacement filters can be purchased from www.thorkitchen.com.
  • Charcoal Filters (Ductless Mode):
    • Replacement: Not washable or regenerable. Should be replaced approximately every 3 months or more frequently with heavy usage.
    • Installation: Installed by locking them into place until a "stop click" is heard, then the grease filter is installed over them.
  • LED Bulbs:
    • Replacement: Requires switching off electrical supply and waiting 5 minutes for bulbs to cool. Gloves should be worn. Bulbs are removed by pulling sideward and replaced with DC12V 2.0W LED bulbs.
  • Hood Cleaning (Stainless Steel):
    • General Cleaning: Use warm water with soap or detergent, rinse with clear water, and wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth to prevent water marks.
    • Discolorations/Deposits: Use a non-scratching household cleanser or stainless steel polishing powder with water and a soft cloth.
    • Stubborn Cases: Use a plastic scouring pad or soft bristle brush with cleanser and water, rubbing lightly in the direction of polishing lines or "grain" of the stainless finish. Avoid excessive pressure.
    • Important Precautions: Do not allow deposits to remain for long periods. Do not use ordinary steel wool or steel brushes as they can scratch and cause rust. Avoid contact with salt solutions, disinfectants, bleaches, or cleaning compounds containing harmful chemicals for extended periods; rinse and wipe dry immediately after exposure.
  • Painted Surfaces: Clean with warm water and mild detergent only.
  • Disposal: The product should not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste; separate collection for special treatment is necessary.

Safety Instructions (General):

  • Installation and electrical wiring must be performed by qualified technicians according to all applicable codes and standards.
  • Never operate the fan with a damaged cord or plug.
  • Ensure sufficient air for proper combustion and exhaust when used with fuel-burning equipment to prevent back drafting.
  • Do not damage electrical wiring or utilities when cutting/drilling into walls or ceilings.
  • Ducted fans must always vent outdoors.
  • For residential kitchen ventilating use only; not for hazardous or explosive materials.
  • Do not vent exhaust air into spaces within walls, ceilings, attics, crawl spaces, or garages.
  • Use only metal ductwork.
  • Never leave surface units unattended at high settings to prevent grease fires.
  • Always turn the hood ON when cooking at high heat or flambéing.
  • Clean ventilating fans frequently to prevent grease accumulation.
  • Use proper pan sizes appropriate for the burner/element.
  • In case of a range top grease fire, smother flames with a lid/cookie sheet/metal tray, turn off the burner, and evacuate if flames persist. Never use water on a grease fire. Use a Class ABC extinguisher only if trained and the fire is small and contained.
  • Check voltage corresponds to the rating plate.
  • Ensure adequate grounding of the domestic power supply.
  • Do not connect the hood to exhaust ducts carrying combustion fumes from other appliances (boilers, fireplaces).
  • Ensure adequate aeration in the room when used with non-electrical, gas-burning appliances.
  • Do not check filter status or touch light bulbs during or immediately after operation.
  • Do not operate or disconnect with wet hands.
  • Avoid free flame under the hood.
  • Constantly monitor food frying to prevent overheated oil.
  • Disconnect the electrical plug before any maintenance.
  • Keep out of reach of children and ensure adult supervision during use.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Ensure adequate room ventilation when the hood is used with gas or other fuel-burning appliances.
  • Risk of fire if cleaning is not carried out as instructed.
  • Do not flambé under the range hood.
  • Discharge air must not be discharged into a flue used for other fuel-burning appliances.
  • Do not use with any solid-state speed control device.
  • Do not use extension cords other than those supplied with the hood.
  • Do not remove the ground prong of the plug. Cutting the cord will void the warranty.
