This document is a Use & Care Manual for THOR Kitchen Professional Range Hoods, specifically covering models TRH30P, TRH36P, and TRH48P. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance, ensuring the appliance delivers consistent high performance for many years.
Function Description
The THOR Kitchen Professional Range Hood is designed for residential kitchen ventilating use only, specifically to eliminate kitchen fumes. It can be configured for either ducted installation, where exhaust air is vented outdoors, or ductless (internal recirculation) installation, which requires a charcoal filter (sold separately). The hood features multiple fan speeds to effectively manage different levels of cooking intensity and includes lighting to illuminate the cooking surface. Its primary function is to maintain a clean and fresh kitchen environment by removing smoke, grease, and odors generated during cooking.
Usage Features
The range hood is equipped with a control switch that allows users to manage its functions. The controls include:
- Light On/Off: A dedicated button to turn the cooking surface lights on or off.
- Fan Speed Settings: Three distinct speed settings (Low, Medium, High) to adjust the ventilation power based on cooking needs. Low speed is suitable for simmering or light cooking, while high speed is ideal for heavy-duty cooking, frying, or when flambeing food.
- Hood On/Off: A button to power the range hood on or off.
For optimal performance and safety, users are advised to:
- Always turn the hood ON when cooking at high heat or when flambeing food.
- Use proper pan sizes and cookware appropriate for the surface burner/element to minimize spills and splatters.
- Adjust flame intensity to direct it onto the bottom of the pan only, ensuring it does not exceed the pan sides.
- Continuously monitor deep fryers, as overheated oil can be a fire hazard.
- Ensure sufficient air is available for proper combustion and exhaust of gas through the flue of fuel-burning equipment to prevent back-drafting, especially when the range hood is used simultaneously with gas appliances. The kitchen should have an opening directly to the open air to guarantee the entry of clean air.
- Avoid leaving open flames unattended under the hood when it is in operation, as this can damage filters and pose a fire hazard.
- Do not check the status of the filters while the range hood is operating.
- Do not touch the light bulbs during or immediately after appliance use, as they may be hot.
- Do not operate or disconnect the appliance with wet hands.
- Avoid free flames, as they are damaging to the filters and present a fire hazard.
Maintenance Features
Proper and frequent maintenance is crucial for the range hood's longevity and efficient performance. Before performing any maintenance work, the hood must be disconnected from the main power supply.
Grease Filters:
- Cleaning: The grease filters should be cleaned frequently, ideally every two months of operation, or more often with heavy use. They are washable and can be cleaned using a warm detergent solution.
- Removal: To remove a grease filter, push down on its latch to disengage it from the hood, then tilt the filter downward and pull it out.
- Refitting: After washing and allowing the filters to dry completely (without bending them), align the rear filter tabs with the slots in the hood. Push down the latch, push the filter into position, and release, ensuring it is securely engaged.
- Replacement: Replacement filters can be purchased from www.thorkitchen.com.
Charcoal Filter (for Ductless Installation - Not Included):
- Replacement: For ductless installations, a charcoal filter is required. This filter is not washable or regenerable and should be replaced approximately every 3 months of operation, or more frequently with heavy usage.
- Installation: To install, insert the charcoal filter and lock it until a stop click is heard. The grease filter is then installed after the charcoal filter.
LED Bulbs:
- Replacement: The range hood may require two DC12V 2.0W LED bulbs.
- Procedure: Always switch off the electrical supply before changing bulbs. Wait for 5 minutes for the bulbs to cool down. Wear gloves and remove the old bulb by pulling it sideward. Replace with a new DC12V 2.0W LED bulb.
Hood Cleaning:
- Stainless Steel Surfaces: Stainless steel is easy to clean. Regular care helps preserve its appearance. Use warm water with soap or a mild detergent. Rinse with clear water and wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth to prevent water marks. For persistent discolorations or deposits, use a non-scratching household cleanser or stainless steel polishing powder with a little water and a soft cloth. For stubborn cases, use a plastic scouring pad or soft bristle brush with cleanser and water, rubbing lightly in the direction of the polishing lines or "grain" of the stainless finish. Avoid excessive pressure that could mar the surface.
- General Precautions:
- Do not allow deposits to remain for long periods.
- Do not use ordinary steel wool or steel brushes, as small bits of steel can scratch the surface and cause rust.
- Do not allow salt solutions, disinfectants, bleaches, or cleaning compounds to remain in contact with stainless steel for extended periods, as many contain harmful chemicals. Rinse with water after exposure and wipe dry with a clean cloth.
- Painted Surfaces: Clean painted surfaces with warm water and mild detergent only.
Disposal:
- This product should not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste. Separate collection of such waste for special treatment is necessary.
