Overview

This document is a product manual for Titon HRV Q Plus Heat Recovery Ventilation Units. It provides comprehensive information on the installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of various models within the HRV Q Plus range.

Function Description

The Titon HRV Q Plus units are designed to provide heat recovery ventilation for dwellings. They work by extracting stale, warm air from "wet rooms" (e.g., kitchens, bathrooms) and recovering heat from it before exhausting it to the outdoors. Simultaneously, they draw in fresh outdoor air, pre-warm it using the recovered heat, and supply it to habitable rooms. This process ensures continuous ventilation while minimizing heat loss, contributing to energy efficiency and improved indoor air quality. The units are controllable via various volt-free switches and sensors, allowing for flexible operation modes.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual covers several models, including:

  • HRV1 Q Plus (TP400A)
  • HRV1.25 Q Plus (TP406A)
  • HRV1.5 Q Plus (TP403A, TP403ABS)
  • HRV1.75 Q Plus (TP404A, TP404ABS)
  • HRV2 Q Plus (TP401A, TP401ABS)
  • HRV2.75 Q Plus (TP405A, TP405ABS)
  • HRV3 Q Plus (TP402A, TP402ABS)

Electrical Specifications:

  • HRV1.25 Q Plus, HRV1.75 Q Plus, & HRV2 Q Plus: 230V ~ 50/60Hz single phase with a fuse rating of 3A.
  • HRV3 Q Plus: 230V ~ 50/60Hz single phase with a fuse rating of 5A.
  • Mains Supply Cord: 3 core flexible cord (PVC sheathed, brown, blue, green/yellow 0.75mm²).
  • Isolation Switch: Must be connected to a local double pole isolation switch with a contact separation of at least 3mm.
  • Earthing: The appliance must be earthed.
  • Control & Communication Cable: Unshielded 4 Core 18-24AWG Stranded, Tinned Copper. Cable gland(s) suitable for Ø3-6mm cable.

Ducting Specifications:

  • HRV1 & 1.25 Q Plus: Ø125mm ducting recommended.
  • HRV1.5, 1.75, 2, 2.75 & 3 Q Plus: Ø150mm ducting recommended.
  • Flexible Ducting: A short piece (approx. 200mm) is recommended for connection to the unit. Must be pulled taut.
  • Ducting Insulation: Insulate where passing through unheated areas/voids with at least 25mm of material (thermal conductivity ≤0.04 W/(m.K)). Ducts within the heated envelope between external terminals and unit ports should be insulated and wrapped with a vapour barrier.
  • Duct Heater (Optional): MAX 1000W. Available in Ø125mm (300W, 600W, 900W) and Ø160mm (300W, 600W, 900W). Requires a minimum airflow speed of 1.5 m/s. Maximum ambient temperature 40°C. Maximum output temperature 40°C.

Dimensions:

  • HRV1 & 1.25 Q Plus: 600mm (width) x 430mm (height) x 295mm (depth). Requires additional space for servicing (300mm above, 100mm below, 600mm front).
  • HRV1.5, 1.75, 2, 2.75 & 3 Q Plus: 715mm (width) x 490mm (height) x 426mm (depth). Requires additional space for servicing (300mm above, 100mm below, 860mm front).

Usage Features

  • Setback Speed: Reduces ventilation rates, automatically set at the midpoint between minimum continuous speed and selected continuous speed. Can be enabled by a volt-free one-way switch or combined with Boost Speed using a 3-position switch (TP 508).
  • Boost Speed with Overrun Timer: Increases extract and supply airflow. Configured with step-less independent fan controls and an adjustable overrun timer (0-60 minutes). Triggered by volt-free one-way switches (PIR, thermostat, humidistat, standard switch).
  • SUMMERboost® (ABS models only): Optional feature that runs both supply and extract fans at full speed when Summer Bypass is active. Enabled by removing a link wire. Can be prevented manually (volt-free switch) or automatically (room thermostat).
  • Summer Bypass: Automatically diverts stale air around the heat cell during hot periods, allowing fresh air to enter without preheating.
  • Automatic Frost Protection: Detects low temperatures and reduces supply ventilation rate to prevent ice build-up in the heat cell. If temperatures fall further, a duct heater can be used.
  • Summer Mode (A models only): Reduces supply of warm fresh air during hot weather by stopping the supply fan. Can be triggered manually (volt-free switch) or automatically (room thermostat). Not for use in dwellings with open flue combustion appliances.
  • Constant Volume Fans: Automatically adjust speed to maintain required airflow despite system resistance.
  • Duct Heater Connection: Allows control of an external mains-operated duct heater to pre-warm incoming fresh air, preventing ice build-up.

Maintenance Features

  • Routine Maintenance: Periodic functional tests are required. Air filters should be checked regularly and replaced at least annually, or more frequently depending on environmental conditions.
  • Filter Replacement: Filters are available in G3 and G4 grades. ABS models use unequal filters. Filters can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner but should be replaced annually.
  • Front Cover Removal: For filter access and interior cleaning, the front cover can be removed by loosening two corner screws and removing the center screw.
  • Cleaning Interior: Slide out filter frames. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the heat exchanger, unit interior, and bypass (if fitted). Do not use water or other fluids.
  • Cleaning Exterior: Use a clean cloth with warm water and mild detergent. Avoid solvents or abrasive cleaners.
  • Condensate Tray: Replacement condensate trays are available if split.
  • Controller Reset: A three-step procedure involving rotating potentiometers and moving the Program/Run Switch to reset the controller.
  • Hardware Reset: If fan motors are prevented from operating due to repeated supply interruptions, power to the unit should be switched off for 5 minutes to reset the hardware. Commissioning settings are not affected.
  • Overheating Protection: Duct heaters are equipped with two overheating cut-outs (one with manual reset). If activated, the cause must be investigated and eliminated before resetting the cut-out button on the lid.
