3.Removethedustcapfromthewheelhub(Figure
16).
4.Removethecotterpinandretainerlocknut
(Figure16).
5.Removethehubnut,spindlewasherandhub
assemblyfromtheaxle(Figure16).
6.Inspectallofthehubassemblyparts,including
thebearings,bearingcups,andoilseal.
Replaceanydamagedparts.

1.Wipeawaytheexistinggreasefromthe
bearings,bearingcups,andhubassemblywith
aclean,dryrag.
2.Packthebearingcupsandinteriorsurfacesof
thehubassemblywithhigh-temperaturegrease
sothatthebearingsrollerfacesarecompletely
coated.
3.Installthebearingcupsandbearingstothehub
assemblyasshowninFigure16.
4.Cleanupanyexcessgreasefromtheoutsideof
thehubassembly.
InstallingtheWheelHubAssembly
1.Installtheoilseal,hubassembly,andspindle
washerasshowninFigure16.
2.Tightenthehubnutwhileturningthewheelhub
assemblytoseatthebearingsandremoveall
endplay.
3.Whileturningthewheelhubassembly,torque
thehubnutto8.5to20.3N⋅m(75to180in-lbs).
4.Loosenthehubnutuntilitdoesnotcontactthe
washerandthehubhasendplay.
5.Tightenthehubnutto1.7to2.3N⋅m(15to20
in-lbs)whilerotatingthehub.
6.Placetheretainerlocknutoverthehubnutso
thatthecotterpinholeisalignedwithasloton
theretainerlocknut.
7.Installanewcotterpinthroughtheslotinthe
retainerlocknutandtheaxleandbendbothlegs
tosecurethepin.
8.Securethehubcap.
