  If the engine starts but doesn't keep running, check the following: the fuel tank vent may be restricted (loosen the cap, and replace it if loosening fixes the issue), there might be dirt or water in the fuel system (drain and flush the system, then add fresh fuel), the fuel filter could be clogged (replace it), there may be air in the fuel (bleed the nozzles and check for air leaks), or the fuel may not be the proper grade for cold weather (drain the system, replace the fuel filter, and add fresh fuel of the proper grade). If the fuel pump is damaged, contact your Authorized Service Dealer.

  Excessive black smoke in the exhaust may be caused by dirty air cleaning system elements (service them) or improper fuel in the fuel system (drain and flush the fuel system, then add fresh fuel). For issues with the injection pump timing, a damaged injection pump or nozzles, or a damaged turbo charger, contact your Authorized Service Dealer.

Also, verify that the engine oil level is correct, adding or draining oil as necessary until it reaches the 'Full' mark. Reduce the load on the machine by operating at a slower ground speed. If there is improper fuel in the fuel system, drain and flush the fuel system, then add fresh fuel.
