Questions and Answers

Overview

This document provides installation instructions and warranty information for the Center Mower Deck, specifically for the Toro Groundsmaster® 4000-D Traction Unit, Model No. 30479 (Serial No. 403100000 and Up) and Serial Number 313000001 and After.

Function Description

The Center Mower Deck is an attachment for the Toro Groundsmaster® 4000-D Traction Unit, designed for mowing operations. It integrates with the traction unit's hydraulic system for power and control. The manual details the process of removing the hydraulic motor from an existing mower deck and replacing the front mower deck itself.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Compatibility: Specifically designed for Toro Groundsmaster® 4000-D Traction Unit, Model No. 30479 (Serial No. 403100000 and Up) and Serial Number 313000001 and After.
  • Hydraulic Motor: The mower deck utilizes a hydraulic motor for operation, which is secured by mounting bolts. An elastomeric spider and pulley coupler are critical components of the hydraulic motor assembly, facilitating power transmission.
  • Deck Attachment: The mower deck attaches to the traction unit via lift-arm mounts and caster-arm tubes. Height-of-cut chains, secured by clevis pins and hairpin cotters, allow for adjustment of the cutting height.
  • Safety Decals: The device includes safety and instructional decals (e.g., decal 133-8061) that are "easily visible to the operator and are located near any area of potential danger." One specific warning advises about "Cancer and Reproductive Harm - www.P65Warnings.ca.gov."

Usage Features

  • Installation/Removal Procedure: The manual provides step-by-step instructions for removing the hydraulic motor and replacing the front mower deck.
    • Hydraulic Motor Removal:
      1. Park the machine on a level surface, lower the mower deck, engage the parking brake, shut off the engine, and remove the key.
      2. Ensure the traction pedal is in NEUTRAL and the PTO lever is in OFF.
      3. Remove bolts securing the hydraulic motor to the mower deck.
      4. Lift the motor off the mower deck and lay it on a clean surface, taking care not to damage the aluminum coupler.
      5. Remove and inspect the elastomeric spider from the pulley coupler for wear, replacing if necessary, and retaining it for installation on the new deck.
    • Front Mower Deck Replacement:
      1. Remove hairpin cotters and clevis pins securing height-of-cut chains to the rear of the mower deck, retaining hardware.
      2. Remove bolts, washers, and locknuts securing each lift-arm mount to the caster-arm tube.
      3. Move the mower deck away from the traction unit.
      4. Move the new mower deck into position and mount it to each caster-arm tube by reversing the procedure.
      5. Adjust the height of cut for the mower deck, referring to the machine's Operator's Manual.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • A warning is issued regarding the lift arms raising up when the mower deck is removed and the machine is turned on. Users are instructed to move the mower deck under the machine and connect it before turning the machine on.
    • General safety practices include ensuring the machine is parked, brakes engaged, engine off, and key removed before performing maintenance.

Maintenance Features

  • Elastomeric Spider Inspection: The elastomeric spider, part of the hydraulic motor assembly, should be inspected for wear and replaced if worn during motor removal.
  • Height-of-Cut Adjustment: After replacing the mower deck, the height of cut must be adjusted according to the machine's Operator's Manual.
  • Warranty Information:
    • Limited Warranty: The Toro Company offers a two-year or 1,500 operational hours (whichever occurs first) limited warranty on commercial products, covering defects in materials or workmanship. This includes diagnostics, labor, parts, and transportation for repairs. The warranty begins on the date of delivery to the original retail purchaser.
    • Obtaining Service: Owners must notify a Commercial Products Distributor or Authorized Commercial Products Dealer as soon as a warrantable condition is believed to exist. Contact information for Toro Commercial Products Service Department is provided.
    • Owner Responsibilities: Owners are responsible for performing required maintenance and adjustments as outlined in the Operator's Manual. Repairs for issues caused by a failure to perform these are not covered.
    • Items Not Covered: The warranty does not cover failures due to non-Toro parts, improper installation, lack of recommended maintenance, abusive operation, normal wear and tear of consumable parts (e.g., brake pads, blades, filters, belts), external influences (weather, contamination, unapproved fuels/lubricants), or non-conforming fuels.
    • Parts Warranty: Parts replaced under warranty are covered for the duration of the original product warranty. Remanufactured parts may be used for repairs.
    • Deep Cycle and Lithium-Ion Battery Warranty: These batteries have a specified total kilowatt-hours they can deliver. Replacement due to normal consumption is the owner's responsibility. Lithium-Ion batteries are pro-rated after 2 years.
    • Lifetime Crankshaft Warranty (ProStripe 02657 Model Only): Specific to the ProStripe model with a genuine Toro Friction Disc and Crank-Safe Blade Brake Clutch, covering engine crankshaft bending.
    • Maintenance at Owner's Expense: Routine services like engine tune-ups, lubrication, cleaning, polishing, and filter/coolant replacement are at the owner's expense.
    • General Conditions: Repair by an Authorized Toro Distributor or Dealer is the sole remedy. The warranty excludes indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. All implied warranties are limited to the duration of the express warranty.
    • Emissions Warranty: A separate warranty may cover the Emissions Control System, meeting EPA and/or CARB requirements, with different hour limitations.
    • International Customers: Customers outside the US or Canada should contact their local Toro Distributor for guarantee policies.
